There are plenty of guides for the
Plains.
So steady on there.
There have been bookings made at CL for pantechnicans and B&B's booked.

Why can't a D3 guide do the 10th?

I know of at least two paid guides I will phone/email them on Monday. 15MY SDV8 Vogue SE

Yup, that's my preference, to keep the date as it is - I have a CC site all booked up and some time off work for the monday as well. I have asked and there are 2 of the D3 chaps who will do the 10th. But worth noting the offer for the 3rd.

Bearing in mind we ought to travel in groups of no more than 4 and we have 23 signed up, that's 5 or 6 group leaders required.

I'll lead a group - one of the D3 chaps will give me a tried and trusted (non damaging) route which I will reccy before the date. So that's 3 groups so far with 9 of the 23 places catered for. (22 actually - exclude me if I lead a group)

So 2 or 3 more GL's would be great. Perhaps it might be prudent to ask those signed up to CONFIRM in the sign up bit? That would give accurate numbers.

Yeah, but appreciate your offer Rob. Thumbs Up

So, I now have another 3 guides from D3. Quite happy to coordinate with them if there are no objections. Actual route not fully confirmed until March due to firing ranges etc, but it WILL be non-damaging and a nice day out. Mostly from OS Landranger 130 and possibly a bit from 131.

Anyone who's booked in at the CC site I posted up is welcome to join me for a barbie and beers at my Van afterwards. Would extend this to all but the CC don't like a lot of visitors who aren't paying residents. Sorry.

regards. Dom.

Will the D3 Guys be using their D3's or jumping in as passengers with FFRR drivers ?

Jem, thanks for that. Just want to keep the thing alive. I'm really looking forward to it 'cos I've never been on Salisbury Plains.

Not sure about guides yet; think we have enough but it depends on numbers. Would be nice if you could be prepared to do it please.

What would also help is if people could do the CONFIRM thing on the sign up page, although I've just tried and got a "Permission Denied" error - Mods ???? EDIT. Error is:
General Error
Could not update registration - not authorised

Rob, as far as I'm aware, they'll be using their D3's but it will definitely be aimed at gentle and non-damaging (unlike some D3 events Whistle ) but either way they're giving up their time to help us out so I don't mind which way it goes TBH.

Anyway, like I said, looking forward to this immensely and also meeting some of the folks on here.

Dom

Sorry all, just noticed the reference to LPR helping Embarassed . By the looks of things it's under control? I hope we'll be there (I'm away that weekend but may be able to get there). If we are able to make it then we'd be happy to bring our nav and recovery kit as backup in case I guide doesn't show.

Just got back from laning in Hereford/Wales which was great fun (if a little extreme for most). http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic20703.html?highlight=

There are plenty of routes across the plain that will give you just enough to make it thoroughly enjoyable without being silly and risk damage.

Promise to keep an eye on the thread now!

James Thumbs Up

Right guys, it's getting close to accommodation booking time.............. I've had a look at places around Lopscombe Corner where the tin-tenters are pitching up but most B&B are either closed as it's out of season or already booked up so I have found a Premier Inn at Salisbury not far down the road for Lopscombe Corner - before I book is this anywhere near to the start - I don't really want to have to get up at the crack of dawn to drive 50 miles to get to the start! I'm combining this with a trip to the Big Smoke and LPR either before or after (should I also get the annual service done at the same time and get them to valet the car afterward......... Whistle). Next question tyres.............. car is running the standard 19" Pirelli Scorpions at the moment, but I have a set of 19"MTR's and 19" Winter Tyres 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Guys is this event still going ahead - I have some offroading events up here around the same time and as one involves taking some very sick kids from the local Hospice the we donate our offroading charges to, out on the hills in Argyll I will have to call off if they clash. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I hope so Tim, I've not kept up with who's organising this since Fox moved on, so who's picked up the reins?

Well, I sort of picked up the reins. Still going ahead and we have some of the local LR boys helping out as group leaders. Have to add though that I know nowt about the area never having been there myself. All I did was organise some people who do know the area well to lead us round in small groups, thus keeping within the various codes of conduct.

I should have some more information around mid march, mainly because the army schedules etc aren't published until then. Once we have the schedules we can plan a route.

Will post back when I have more.

Dom
