I used my 2.5 VM classic for 9 years as a mobile office visiting mountain top Radio sites throughout the North of England and I loved it., having progressed from SWB series 3 Land Rover it was the Bees knees.

If nothing else, it makes me appreciate just how good my newer models have been, even my 2.5 D P38.

I would suggest you have a look on ebay. That will give you a good idea of its value.

How long is a piece of string? Probably anywhere between £2,000 and £20,000 for a mint example. If yours has not had any restoration done then it will probably need some by now. Its almost 20 years old and they were never well protected from rust even when new. An SE model with leather is thought of as more desirable so if yours is police spec with no sun roof its not going to be in great demand I wouldn't have thought. They are money pits so you would really need to want one to pay a lot of money. And there are lots for sale almost everywhere.

I think Mogman is correct - there are things which will knock it back price-wise.

I sold my '91 Vogue SE last year, it was a long way from perfect but was a going concern with a new MOT and a working LPG conversion. Driven away, not trailered away, for £3.5k. I think I was quite lucky to get that much for it. I sold it on eBay as a 99p no reserve auction and let it run to the end.

My first Rangey over 20 years ago was a rather care worn G reg 3.9.

What's your thoughts Craig on how these cars are to live with Andy drive in 2019. Do they feel a little antiquated and inadequate for today's world or are they loads of fun still.

I'd almost consider you'd feel very secure in the knowledge that the mechanics and electrics are relatively simple to deal with and possibly more reliable than the latest Land Rover offerings!

Providing corrosion is dealt with and kept at bay they do seem to make lots of sense ! Current

They are fantastic to live with and use on a daily basis IMHO... My 4.2LSE is better as it has a little more power and of course a large amount of legroom

I had a lot of work done to mine a few years back by Kingsley. On the whole it was an ok experience. I had all the front end sorted, tailgates repaired/replaced and the engine rebuilt with my choice of cam. I dealt with a chap called Mark; it was a fairly painless experience, they were fair with the extras that inevitably got uncovered and I'm sure I got bits tidied that weren't billed for. Their communication was fine and time keeping acceptable. Certainly I've had far worse experiences with "professional" marque experts in other areas.

I imagine there will be those who it will be very pricey but all I'll say to that is that I've had work done elsewhere which was comparable price wise and I got quotes at the time from other outfits and it was all fairly similar. Yes if you know or can find someone local to you who can weld properly then it will be cheaper but now your average garage is more familiar with a diagnostics machine than a welder they are getting harder to find. A garage who can weld become quickly becomes a classic restoration business and the price goes up accordingly. I considered doing the bodywork and engine work separately but the one stop option was an attraction.

I have since had an engine problem which seems to have stemmed from faulty head gaskets which they fitted. I should have given them the opportunity to see and fix but it was easier to sort it locally. They did offer to investigate but the logistics of an inoperative car/transport/time etc made it more tricky.

I don't think it was what they did more what they used and they probably couldn't have foreseen it.

I'd go back again if I wanted more work but for the little bits I still need and a respray I can do that locally.

Damon, the chap who owns it, is a character. You can't fault his enthusiasm and for anyone who likes classics a visit to them is quite breathtaking as the car park has about 50 classics in there is varying states of repair. There are usually one or two other things about too, I had a go in an Overfinch Disco 1 once, not what you expect from a Disco!

Its well worth a trip if you want that sort of work.

I'd agree, quality of work iffy from the reports I've had and pricing is outrageous. Some of the quotes I've seen were laughable.

I'm intrigued to know why avoid Kingsleys?

I've been following James Taylors rebuild of his Classic in LRO that's being done by Twenty10 and although the articles not finished yet, the results look amazing. I have an LSE that I would like to get the bodywork and shell sorted on and I'm trying to decide who. The work that Kingsleys do on the bodywork looks good from the stuff they post on Instagram but the trimming side of things looks iffy and some of the restomod stuff I don't agree with.
