I would definitely check to see if the 4 short inlet manifold hoses have been changed to the later modified type.
Plenty of posts with pictures on here to show old and new versions, but they are a failure waiting to happen.
Very easy job and not expensive.

2011 Vogue SE 4.4 with lots of toys in Stornaway

Some quick photos before I spend some time on a thorough clean & polish / wax, although its not too bad to be fair to the previous owner.

Not the wheels I'd ideally have (which would be silver style 19 if anyone has a set they're looking to sell). Quite pleased it doesnt have the privacy glass which most do seem to have.

Spec. is pretty decent although no RSE (no children so makes no odds to me) and no surround cameras.

Also in two minds re the side steps & front mud flaps.

Thanks Stan, having had a couple of 5.0 SC's AB's in the past (one of which I had no end of problems with timing chain rattle, but thats another story) I was particularly looking for the autobiography interior with leather door cards / headlining etc. although it narrowed my search down a bit. Can't beat ivory with piano black in my view!

Well today has been the first chance to get underneath & check if the twin drain tube modification has been carried out on the secondary turbo, very tricky to see up past the first section (initially rubber into metal tubing) but luckily the part number sticker wrapped around the visible part of the metal tube was still attached and it reads LR045004, which correlates to the revised twin drain tube modification, so happy days, looks like I have the updated tube afterall

There was no smoke on heavy acceleration when I test drove it, or since, but good to see the modified tube there to confirm.

Whilst poking about, I also checked the oil pipe at the back of the engine for drips / leaks, as highlighted a good while back by Camtech Craig (under the pollen filter air intake / plenum) and no leaks visible there either, looked remarkably clean & dry infact - I did order the two viton o rings in advance, in case they were needed, but no sense in disturbing it for now.

Whilst under the car, the only concern I had was the state of the air resevoir under the right hand sill, its pretty rusted although whether thats the norm. or not I don't know, suspension all working ok so again, I'll leave it be for now.

they do seem to rust a bit so thats normalish, only heard of one on here with an actual perforation and that was on a slightly earlier car as I remember.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've been wondering if there is a way to do an acceptable DIY version of the drain mod.

As I understand it, the significant job is drilling the block and (although mitigated) risk of swarf. The big big job is removing the diff and possibly subframe to get to do this drilling.

Other than that, it's a few simple connections.

So how could the drilling part of the job be made easier?

Here's my thinking (which may be rubbish, I'll say that now) :

The drill point is actually already a plugged casting hole. In the picture from the TSB two plugs come out, the lower one is used to flush the swarf and the a replacement is fitted. The upper one is the one that needs drilling according to the TSB. The drilling is so it can be tapped and the new hose fitting wound in. All you need to do is be able to feed oil into that pathway.

You remove the plug and discard.

So how could you attach a hose reliably to the plug without removing the plug?

Or could an alternate machined plug be installed with a hose fitting on it?

Plugs are bonded in so why couldn't you bond a different one back in?

Just a thought Greg... what do the newer ones look like , that come from the factory with the second drain already fitted ?
Is the plug and pipe made in one piece ?

If a bracket could be made to clamp the tube in its hole then the threaded end of the tube could be cut off to allow the tube to be fitted fully, or at least as far as needed. The later factory-fitted dual drain uses such a bracket that has a hole for the retaining bolt although that bracket is attached to the fitting, not just pushing from behind. If the tube is steel then a bracket could be brazed/silver soldered to it but if alloy then probably not practical to weld an alloy bracket due to the risk of melting the tube. The nearby diff retaining bolt is a possible candidate.
