I don't have one on my sc but I have these on my m6 and the are a terrible design. Water penetrated through the tread plate over time and short the light tape out and it's game over. On those there is a dig to use a heat gun to separate and use some new light tape. Current stable:

Can get a 12v, 1.5 w led fibre optic light source and side skirt glow optical fibre cable that comes in varying sizes from 3 to 10mm might give it a try. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Mine were like that - I ended up buying a replacement set, but the light is still pretty feeble in them, especially if you have LED puddle lamps.
