You need to exchange your licence for a uk one as you quoted in your post i own and run my own bike training school....no uk licence then no way of taking a cbt, theory test or cat A bike test without it.

The absolute bare minimum to initiate a CBT is the UK provisional licence. It will become a receptacle for the bike licence pre test, after the successful test you should get a full bike licence but in what form I’m not sure.

Thanks, much appreciated - I will do indeed. However, just out of curiosity, should a UK resident whish to pass his motorbike licence, yet DOES NOT have a car licence - say he lives in the city and doesn't want a car (like most millennials do, hum, hum...), couldn't he get a motorbike license? in other words, do you have to be a car driver to be a motorcyclist in the UK (it is not the case in Europe or the States for instance)? l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l Current RANGE ROVER Vogue 4.4L SDV8 - 2013 - Indus Silver, on Almond. No Weggie, it would require me being in says France for too many days, weeks apart etc. I can manage it all in the UK locally easily. I have vehicles insured in France and in the USA with my Euro licence and I am worried tht changing my licence to a UK one will be a problem, in particular for the French vehicles' insurance. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l Current RANGE ROVER Vogue 4.4L SDV8 - 2013 - Indus Silver, on Almond. You don't HAVE to have a car license to get motorcycle license just a UK provisional but you would need to be eligible to apply for that (not sure what that would require) 2010 L322 3.6 TDV8 Vogue Stornaway Grey |

As I said earlier you do just need a U.K. provisional licence but as the OP has already got a full licence albeit at the moment a euro one he has to surrender that for a U.K. full licence to be able to start bike training in the U.K. This is because apparently you cant go backwards, full to provisional and you certainly can’t have both. ______________________________

A UK licence would currently be no problem for French insurance. MOH insures the FF in her name and she retains her UK licence. The insurance co. show no interest in the D/L When the Td6 was written off there were no questions about D/Ls. The US insurance may be different. Surely its a driving licence with entitlements, not a car or motor bike licence. Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.
