You do....smart key needs to be detected in the car and brake pedal needs to be pressed to start, in P or N.....

Is there a fuel supply problem - not primed or tank level too low? |

The brake pedal will probably feel rock hard, making it difficult to engage starter until you get it started and build up some vacuum pressure.

Thanks, Baltic Blue. I've just seen that the starter motor breather tube is missing. I have no idea if its even possible to install without taking the engine back out. as I said at the beginning of this project nearly a year ago - its a jigsaw. When I said the engine is firing in my previous post; I made a mistake. they engine is turning. would the breather pipe not being connected stop it from trying to start? the brake pedal is not rock hard....not sure if that is a sign of something. |

The missing breather pipe on the starter won't stop it working and it's been turning anyway.

Quick update! She is alive ! DOA 2016..... Reborn 2019.... It has taken: 1 - a stupid amount of money 2 - a stupid amount of time 3 - realising I trusted the wrong garage to help me with the labour 4 - finding a magic team at Nick Kerner 4 Wheel Drive who got it over the line. Major bits in the end: Brand new Engine New Turbo's New Injectors New A/C pump New power steering pump New steering rack Full exhaust systems - breakers New rules cooler New suspension Air compressor New front & Rear driveshafts New Radiator What Nick Kerner did when they got it: Drained & Replaced Engine oil. Checked exhaust manifold nuts are all tight. checked oil feed pipes. Checked turbo mounting brackets and crank sensor. Re fitted al heatshields & mounting wiring To brackets. Re routed VAC Pipes. Re routed AC Compressor Wiring. Checked coolant hoses & Oil Cooler. Removed broken earth strap and cleaned & greased terminals. RE routed wiring to alternator, RH turbo, Oil Level Sensor. Re Routed starter wiring and secure to sump. Replaced O Rings on steering rack top banjo's. Heated & Removed X2 seized caliper bleed nipples & X1 Exhaust hanger bolt & repaired x2 wiring plugs. Repaired wiring harness for sensor power feeds. Removed RH turbo/ Manifold to check oil and water feed pipes. Removed started motor & checked torque converter bolts. Re fitted starter motor breather hose. Cleaned out inlet manifold & intercooler to remove swarf. Checked All Fluid Level Replace coolant radiator and bleed system fully 2.50 70.00 0.00 20.0 210.00 Carry out wiring loom repair to engine bay loom & diagnostic for engine system and gearbox system. What a journey - she is sitting on the drive.... now on to the next items on the list Interior swap out Dynamate sound deading through body correction new vented discs and pads all round Alloy refurb New tyres install interior design pack full respray or full wrap...... watch this space.... It also has a slight leak from he front diff.... so will get that done eventually too. Who ever said owning a Range Rover was the closest thing to actually burning money ? |

Great that you got past the non-starting issue. Do you know if it was caused by the broken earth strap? |
