Changing from 2 x 7 pin to one 13 pin Towbar Electrics

My 2011 Vogue came with a Wesfalia towbar with removable hook and two x 7 pin plugs. My caravan has a 13 pin plug, and although I could use an adapter, I would prefer to fit a 13 pin wiring loom, and these are available here:

http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI...&ver=0

I gather the new loom is just "plug and play". It pases through a rubber grommet in the back valance to a multi pin connector in the boot nearside. According to other posts here, there is no trailer module on this model year. The car already "knows" that it has a towbar fitted, so I guess that no reprogramming will be required (I have a IID Tool).

Has anyone else done this mod, and if so is there anything to look out for?

That should work. Converted a couple of these for customers. PF Jones are spot on. Thumbs Up

13 pin wiring loom install and IID Tool Issues

So here is the 13 pin wiring loom supplied by PF Jones, and fitting is indeed straight forward. The multi pin connector goes through a hole in the rear valance to a connector in the boot LHS rear, and the 13 pin connector is attached to the existing mounting point. the biggest issue for me was getting the old 7 pin connectors off, as the bolts were rusted and seized solid.

After that you have to tell the system that it has a towbar fitted, so I fired up the IID Tool, and this is when the fun started. You have to go into the car Config File/ Body Control Module and change 3 settings.

I then saved the file by following the prompts, but got an "upload fail" message followed promptly with "upload succeeded". When in turned on the ignition again I had a load of error messages, including ABS inop Stability Control Inop etc, so I used the IID Tool again to turn off all the settings I had changed, but on saving the file, the same messages were there!
Thinking I might have trashed the BCM ECU, I contacted Gap Diagnostics by email, and they replied promptly with the following:

"What you have experienced is normal on these cars. It needs to go to sleep.
-CCF change...
-Lock the doors
-Wait a few minutes
The warning message at the end of the CCF will happen on some later L322 and its timing related, nothing to worry about."

So after a few anxious mments, all was well. I have asked GAP to put this info on their FAQ.

Incidentally, does anyone know what these changes actually do? I presume something like not turning on the rear parking sensors with a towbar fitted, not turning on rear fog lights, maybe changing the rpm where gear changes occur. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

2011 is plug and play I thought with no CCF changes needed. I might be wrong....
Earlier motors did need it changing... Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The 2011 has no trailer module, but when I checked with GAP, they told me to set these three. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

Gap tell me that these are the same changes set by the LR official diagnostics. They don't know exactly what affect they have. 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

Our 59 plate TDV8 had two 7 pins. I just fitted a 13 pin and rewired it. Altered the CCF in IID and it all works a treat. Just cost me £8 for the 13 pin plug. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I guess you didn't replace the whole wiring loom, just the plug. Good cheap job. the complete loom costs £80 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

No. I was going to fit that loom that you had, but I’d converted my previous TD6 and I still had the wiring diagram so did this instead. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded
