You'd be shocked at the muck behind the butterfly if you consider that to be bad. It's caused by crankcase oil vapours mixing with EGR soot |

Unfortunately yes it's normal unless EGR is mapped-out. |

EGR not mapped, im waiting for parts to arrive which will be on Tuesday with luck .so gives me a few days to strip it off and give it a good clean.

It's the pipe that connects the EGR valve to the inlet manifold and it's located at the top of the engine you can't miss it when you take the engine cover off |

If you look at the first picture in this post you can see the end of it just behind the throttle body butterfly |

I didn’t know the egr pipes had holes in them, mine and all the photos look like they are solid tubes. Didn’t bother cleaning mine, just stuck them in a bag on the shelf in the garage just for prosperity 👍 |

I didn't notice any difference only reason I noticed it was because I had to take off the air intake pipe to change the front belt tensioner.
