I have the 19 speaker option on my new 4.4 and the sound is unbelievable. Crystal clear even at ear drum splitting volume. Awesome.

Big Cry ........ Big Cry ........ Big Cry .........

What about the writing on the front loudspeakers, mine has a logo "Logic 7" in black...maybe the 1200 Watt has a different Logo, just looking for something visual to get an idea Rolling Eyes

JJ PM me the VIN and I will do my best to find out for you. Just need the last 6 numbers from the VIN plate in the corner of the windscreen.

2009 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

I don't know which mine is on my 58 Vogue SE but it's really not very good. Turning off Logic7 helped but it's still fizzy. The treble's harsh, the bass is woolly and uneven and the mid range seems suppressed. Turning on L7 just makes everything even less defined.

The Logic 7 system in my BMW 530d was much better. The stereo in the RR has been the only real let down. I didn't realise there were two different Logic7 setups.

Has anybody upgraded amps or speakers on the FFRR? (Sorry to hijack the thread)

I would suggest something is wrong with your amp. Might be worth unplugging it and spraying the connectors with contact cleaner?

Out of interest, how do you turn the L7 off in the newer ones?

Logic 7 is certainly rubbish in the 2008 cars. Turns off via the screen with which you alter the tone settings.

On mine the sound always passes through the L7 amp I believe and can't be turned off. There are very few settings to change, this was dissapointing as the DSP amp had lots of settings you could change.

That being said, going from a 2003 with DSP to a 2003 with L7 it is certainly an upgrade, so it's a shame they fudged the later cars somehow.

why the need for a centre speaker unless part of a 5.1 av surround sound

the centre speaker is only used for 'dialogue' (spoken word)

and in a car i cannot fathom out how you would balance a centre speaker?

though to be fair as an av/stereo 'nerd' i've always held the belief that you could not design a WORSE environment for audio than a car Smile

you simply cannot move the volume of air needed and the 'enclosure' of the speakers cannot be effectively isolated etc etc - best left to AV forums Very Happy

but you have to ask why the big names in audio have never ventured into in car systems - and sony/Alpine/Harman Kardon/Bose are not big names when it comes to audio quality

What about Linn and Aston Martin? And Naim and bentley?

i know and the reasults are not something to boast about Very Happy

they have 'sold' their audio name to a prestige auto marque - most drivers probably listen to radio 4 (i do!)

Shocked Because when watching DVD's it plays in 5.1.

When in normal mode it mixes left and right slightly, as the cabin is so big and you're not sat dead centre you would get stereo bias from the speaker nearest you, the centre speaker eliminates this.

sorry Dan but your wrong - you can't talk about stereo bias (stereo being two channel) and then introduce a centre speaker into the equation Sad

when listening to AUDIO CD's you would never use a centre speaker - you use 'pure direct' two channel stereo

i have a fairly good home cinema system but when listening to music cds all speakers other than front left and right are disabled - the amp allows this 'direct' route

When you are sat in the front and you have a passenger, their legs will partially obscure the speaker in the footwell etc. So to ensure that you can here perfectly balanced sound - as if both speakers were the same distance from you the centre speaker is utilised.

In a pro audio setup one would tweak the delays to get this perfect, depending on where exactly you're sat. In a car that's not really practical.

When watching DVD's with a 5.1 source this is upmixed to 7.1 (unless native, but as yet there are no 7.1 discrete movies)

CD's and I believe radio are also processed to full 7.1 through the L7 amp - so even when you have a stereo encoded track it will still come out (simulated) 7.1.

But OK, if I'm wrong. I'm wrong.

The Naim Bentley system has been reviewed well by the hi-fi people; as has the B&O system in newer Aston Martins.

The Bose Porsche system in 911s is actually very good.

Personally I think most upmarket car brands offer systems that are more than adequate to jo averages ear but will never be good enough to a HIFI aficionado simply because in a car it is not possible to get perfect sound Wink

I have stnd system in 911 and it's medicre at best. I'd heard (see what I did there?) the upgraded bose is better.
