England 2015 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Corris Grey
Hot wheels?

just completed a 20 minute run then parked up, noticed smoke coming from rear offside wheel. Wheel was extremely hot to touch.
brakes or wheel bearing? whats the most likely. had new disks and pads put on about 7 months ago. any ideas??

I would expect warped disc or seized calliper before wheel bearing because you're likely to hear it rumble if that went.

It could also be the handbrake seized on........that will need confirmation from someone else because I haven't examined mine that closely yet to know if the handbrake works the rear wheels or not.

Happened to my Classic many years ago, i ended up throwing a bucket of water over it thinking it was going to burst into flames, then with cold chisel and club hammer freed off the caliper, ah those were the days Rolling Eyes

After changing disks and pads my near side rear got very hot I changed the caliper and all ok now The worst thing about being retired is you miss out on all the bank holidays

Another vote for a sticky caliper - fairly common problem - when mine went I got refurb units from Dan@Duckworths and a local guy to fit

Do both sides as the other won't be far behind Thumbs Up

definitely a sticky caliper, have had several of those, not a difficult or expensive job..

First thing to check is that the pads move freely in the caliper carrier though, the carrier can rust and the pads stick in place even though the piston has retracted.

Take the caliper off and see if the pads come out easily, then take the caliper carrier off and file off the rust where the pads sit in the little chrome clips, a strip and clean might help sort it out, and its free.

Am not sure wether to laugh or cry when so many people want to rush out and buy a new caliper because it is sticking a little.Half the time it is tight pads and most calipers will be free with a little penetrating spray behind the rubber,i have even had totally seized rusted calipers work fine on old cars before today .You can even go and buy a new piston kit before a new caliper,it really is rarely necessary unless you like spending money.

this is true they can be freed off, and quite often it is just the pads, as it seems to be a quirk of the TRW caliper that they do stick in the holder sometimes, however a refurbished rear TRW caliper for a 3.6 isn't massive money, and is a good way to go for peace of mind, I've had sticking callipers on both sides of my 3.6 both times at inopportune moments while away, IIRC they were about £70 from my local factors (not ecp), and meant i didn't have to think about it again, it is possible to refurb them as well but i figured by the time i had taken it of, cleaned it up, bought the refurb kit and put it back on again, i might as well have got a refurbished one. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had mine replaced last week , 32 stg for part with 7 stg for new sliding pins. Not worth the effort of freeing out in my humble opinion. Mine was passenger rear. 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks guys and possibly gals. stripped it down at the weekend. caliper was sticking. Cleaned it all up appeared to work correctly tested it 20-30 times and it was fine. final check before reassembly and it had seized again. new one being fitted tomorrow.

IF I have Brembo front calipers I believe, as they have Brembo written on them, does it follow the rears will be too in my 2007 tdv8 3.6? 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

I had offside caliper failure on both the 2007 and 2011 , 2007 was about 30 quid , the 2011 was about 170quid !!! I couldn't afford one for a 2019 Very Happy 2015 4.4 AB
