L322 2011 4.4 TDV8 Suspension / compressor fault

Hi all, looking for some pointers please.
Saturday night, 'bong' suspension fault, max speed 30mph, stopped car, restated and drove a couple of miles and same thing. Restarted and raised car to full height and then access height, returned to normal height, drove another couple of miles and same again, then 'compressor over temp' (I think was the exact words) got car home and left it.
Sunday, drove 40 miles with no issues.
Monday, drove 3 miles up the road and same fault, 'bong' suspension fault, max speed 30mph. Returned home, car goes up & down with now issues. Removed compressor cover and found the compressor very hot. Started car, steering wheel lock to lock and compressor cutting in & out as required with no issues. When driving, you can hear the compressor (left cover off etc) kicks off after 1 minute or so, ok for a few miles then all of a sudden 'bong' suspension fault, max speed 30mph, as soon as this happens, you can hear the compressor pulsing out air.
Phoned my INDY (who is away on holiday for Easter) he said, 1st thing to replace compressor. Left the car on full height mode for 2 days, no dropping at all.
Replaced the compressor & relay tonight, out for test drive and 'bong' suspension fault, max speed 30mph, again, as soon as this happens, you can hear the compressor pulsing out air.

Not happy, been searching through posts but unable to find something similar.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

You are in luck (sort of) my post 'suspension issues after towing' describes the exact symptoms you have

The compressor is getting hot as it can't get the system up to pressure and after so many cycles it pings up that warning as it has not achieved the correct height

I bet you have a leak - it was not immediately obvious which wheel was the problem on mine but when I was driving into work I plugged diagnostics in to watch the compressor temperature and the psi in the tank. When the compressor got to 280 F it cut out and the pressure started dropping.

I also monitored the 4x4 screen where it shows you the wheel heights from the screen in the car - this pointed to my front left getting low before the others (then it self levels) and sure enough that's where I found my leak.

They don't always leak at a specific height - jacking each corner up and down and use soapy water on the bags. Mine had perished on the fold of the bag at the bottom

Thanks, but my compressor gets up to pressure & cuts out as required, it doesn’t kick in again, therefore I’m under the understanding that the pressure is fine.

Exhaust on the compressor not opening to allow it to start up again? Assuming it works like an unloading valve on a static compressor

Have you read the codes?

Do you know the pressure is fine - I. E have you checked on diagnostics?

Had the same sort of issue, there is a little screw in brass exhaust filter/silencer on the compressor that gets clogged, you can replace it , or do as i did , unscrew and throw away to replace at a later date (that was 2 years ago) , you will get a louder PSSSHHHH when the compressor exhausts but apart from that all good !

Might be worth looking at the plastic pipes and the big tubular reservoir on the drivers side to check for leaks, could even be that the bags are still fine, but the system from them back is leaking somewhere?

The rear valve block is inside the arch liner on the driver's side.

I saw an issue on here recently where one of the blue pipes had chafed and got a hole in that was causing weird suspension anomalies.

EDIT: as you say the compressor was swapped it could be worth re-checking all the pipe connections to that to ensure none are leaking. Formerly happymadison1978

Did you replace the compressor with the same make? if not I believe it needs to be programmed?

I got a valve block if you need one - the one closest to the compressor (i.e. IN the boot) Land Rover Addict
