Gents today through the post I have received two fixed penalties of 45E each for speeding on the french roads one on the A11 and one on the A28 they were on the way down goodness knows how many I might have on the way back ------so it would seem that they can track you and will issue speeding fines - I think I shall just pay them as I travel there often and not sure if they have started the virtual driving licence yet - anyone know?

Separately but out of interest, I put my French registration no. Into the ULEZ check and it came back that my FF is subject to charge so looks like things are pretty well"joined up" now.  John

The payment notice is in English as well its a 68E fine but reduced to 45E if paid within 46days if you don't it reverts back to 68E and after 76 days it becomes 180E so now I wait to see how much I racked up in the 10 days I was there

I thought when we leave the EU we are to be set adrift from Europe into the Atlantic drifting aimlessly around the world no connection to spy or law enforcement agencies well that's what I have been told?

I’ve not had one through yet and have set of a lot, but I think my drive home on Saturday may be a little more subdued than normal. I always keep €90 in the car for when I’m stopped, but the cameras could rack up quite quickly. On the bright side, no points, awareness courses, or declaring to your insurance (yet)

I’m also wondering whether having a reg no in the format of 2 letters and 4 numbers helps - it must stuff their automated system, so would require someone actually looking at the photo and either seeing the GB on the plates, or seeing it’s RHD

What speed do they claim you were doing? I heard that they can sting you for one mph over....That of course doesn’t hold up as the cameras are not reliable enough..but ain’t worth fighting...

They were both about the same one was 143 and the other 144 they do a calculation based on a technical margin of wait for it
5kmh up to 100 then 5%of the speed measured for a fixed device and for a moving device 10kph to 100 then 10% so their example is
for a measured speed of of95 the speed used is 90 for a speed of 140 speed used is 133
If that makes sense mine was 143 so speed usedwas135 so it was 95% so logically 136/7 and the speed they would use would be 130 so safe

They clearly haven’t heard of the law that only allows you to be fined
once for one offence

This is a continuation of the same offence, thus only one fine is lawful

I wouldn’t hold my breath if you thought about telling the gendarmes
they were wrong

30 mins apart hardly counts as the same offence though surely ?

I could get the argument for the same short stretch of road where you might not have known the speed limit, but even then, the cameras are not usually that close together.......

As Alistair says they are never that close and in half an hour I had changed roads and probably travelled 50 miles
