If so, which holes are you using for the tow ball to bolt to for a level caravan?

Actually it's more detachable than the swan neck -- in that the pin holding the bar in only has a 'R' clip, the swan neck is nut and bolt and 'R' clip.

But to answer your question, exactly as your picture

Top hole works well for my box trailers and a 405 (that might make a difference).

If yours doesn’t have the anti rattle bolt fitted, be sure to sort out a receiver hitch anti-rattle clamp

The hitch itself slides into the receiver and is held in place by the pin. There is, however, a fair amount of free play that will rattle like a with the trailer in place!

Some of them come with a hole on one side of the square section receiver tube, with a nut welded in place over the hole. You then screw a bolt through this nut, then through the hole, until it pins the hitch firmly in place, by pushing it hard up against one side of the receiver. If you haven’t bought it yet, make sure that the one you buy has this fitted (some do, some don’t).

If not, you’ll need to import an anti rattle clamp from the USA, where anyone who’s anyone has one of these receiver hitches fitted and knows exactly how to fix the problem

Hi, Andy, the centre holes give you the same height as the swan neck type I have measured it and others can verify that on here?

On my previous TD6 I had a Westfalia detachable tow bar and that did rattle. I put up with that for 10 years not realising there was a fix! I did think about packing it out with shims at one point.

There is also a detachable tow ball on the TDV8 we’ve just bought but I’ve decided to remove the detachable bit and fit the one in my photo above. I’ve heard a couple of horror stories of them detaching so I thought I’d swap it. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I’d agree with that plan entirely

The early versions of that tow hitch had a clean hole - so you could use a bolt or pin.

The later ones are half threaded, so need to be bolted and as a result of the thread, don’t rattle.

On my L322 it was top holes for an Ifor Williams.

I’m talking about a hole (with spot welded nut) in the receiver tube itself, rather than the solid metal bar.

Understood - and needed with a smooth hole in the bar - but the threaded hole doesn’t need the additional anti-rattle

The TDV8 is sept 09 so I assume it was factory fitted. All the electrics are there dated 2009 as well. The detachable bit has never been used and is sat in the storage box in the boot.
Having said all that- the IID tool says towbar not fitted or something like that
