Saw this earlier on the news, keeps me smiling all day these non-stories, so when the technology fails and the vehicle breaks the speed limit.... who is at fault?? Don't think this has been thought through. |

Current 405s have "intelligent speed limiter" switchable on and off, the manual makes it clear that it's the driver's responsibility to obey speed limits, i.e. one can't just leave the car to it. It depends on the satnav being up to date, and even when operational can be overridden by kickdown, e.g. when overtaking an HGV with oncoming traffic in the distance and then finding a small car in front of it that also needs to be passed to get back in again. The suggestion seems that one would have to switch it off every time one started the car, rather than the setting chosen remaining in place until changed. That would be a bore, but one would get used to it, as with the rear seat aircon switch off on late 322s. The real danger would be if one could no longer switch it off, "frustration causes accidents" as the Scottish road signs quite rightly say. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |
