i have a chinese sat nav that can flash up an 'over speed' icon and sound when you go over the speed limit...works well here and abroad...

it doesnt detect police radar guns but it might be worth considering..

Detectors are generally unreliable - lots of false positives - and with a hand held gun, it will beep at the exact moment your caught.

The only things worth having IMHO are the map based ones

On the L405 I can upload them onto the sat nav, but don’t think you can on the L322 - so maybe get something on your phone ?

I have a Road Angel Gem. It probably isn't a current model. It is a camera database gadget that runs off the power socket. It does not detect or jam radar or laser detectors. It is a bit of a nuisance that it beeps when approaching a camera whatever speed one is doing i.e. it does not remain silent if under the limit. On my 322s I stuck its stand to the trim at the corner of the windscreen, I don't want to do that in the 405 as the finish is different, so it stands in a JLR insulated cup with its lid off in the cupholders in front of the cubby box. It does pick up signal there, but maybe not quite as well as up at the windscreen.

It beeps when approaching cameras. The 405 sat nav does the same, so the only thing I use it for really is for average speed camera zones, where it warns of the zone and (very usefully) shows the average speed in the zone as well as the current speed. It is also useful for checking speedo accuracy when using different wheels e.g. 405 wheels with 255/55R20s on a 322 which would have 255/50R20 as standard. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I use Tom Tom Speed Cam detector app - works a treat, shows all cams and also monitors your speed - free to download

Thanks for the advice gents at present I don't use anything and do over 20k miles year clean licence until a few weeks ago and picked up 3 points
It was a hand held gun so guessing that having a camera detector would be useless anyway - maybe I just need to pay attention more

Waze is about the best thing you can get these days and it's FREE.

Full speedcamera and type locations, user updated realtime traffic and other obstructions / delays and the best bit, you can report PC plod. I'm not sure how many reports it takes by different people for it to actually publish it on the maps but it's not often wrong when it warns you.

It 100% saved my ass coming back from Wales a couple of months ago, came round a corner and boom, locked in his crosshairs, luckily Waze squeeked about 1/2 a mile prior.


I also up until recently had TomTom's full live traffic subscription and camera updates on the headunit in my 911 but I think that will be going on ebay soon and be replaced with either an android unit to run Waze or something to mirror my phone with Waze on. Current

Why not keep your speed down? just a thought

considering the cameras on the M25 and M1 are now set to flash you a picture at 72mph, it's easy to slip over 72 on the motorway if not using cruise. Gone are the days of +10 and 3mph, if you're at 73 you're getting a letter in the post

As long as looking out for speed limit signs and watching your speedometer can take absolute priority over looking out for other vehicles, pedestrians, animals and generally watching the road then your strategy is flawless

That's 'Fake News'. Assuming there are no temporary speed restrictions (i.e. still 70mph) then the standardised charging threshold is 10% of the limit + 3 mph.

Plus ! on the Waze app, worked brilliantly in France this Summer and from my experience very accurate on reporting Speed Cameras.
Seems to work ok in UK too.

waze is very good, if, you have a data plan/phone holder fitted/smart phone with a reasonably sized screen/dont mind mounting phone for you trip/plugging phone in for power/eyesight that doesn't need reading glasses to see the screen...
