Is the 2010MY worth the extra?

Hi all!

I’m in the market for an L322, have had a mk1 in the past but am now after a tdv8. My budget can just about stretch to a 2010 facelift car with the lcd dash and newer infotainment but my question is how much better is the mk3 over the mk2? I’m in the car a lot and prefer the looks of the mk3 exterior and interior but can anyone give me an idea of the functionality differences between the m2 and mk3? There seems to be several thousand pounds difference between the two so looking for an honest view please! Thanks in advance.

My experience was that the 3.6 TDV8 was an acceptable replacement for the BMW 4.4 petrol, whereas the 4.4TDV8 was quite a step up. The 8 speed gearbox is a notable improvement too. Consider whether access charges or exclusions will be relevant to where you will be driving, based on the Euro emissions rating of the cars. Earlier cars seem less prone to corrosion than later. Only Range Rovers since 1988

what's your budget. You can get a 4.4 TDV8 now for mid teens. don't be fooled by paying lots more for less mileage. Better a high miler on motorways than a low miler popping to the golf club and back.

When looking at S/C models last year, I decided it was worth the extra to get the 2010+ model year.

The pre-2010 vehicles are still lovely, but just feel a bit more dated, and as I plan on keeping for a number of years, decided I'd rather have the more modern interior, along with all the other benefits that came in with that year.

I had a 2010MY 3.6 VSE, bought with 35k on it and sold 4 years later with 77k on it. In those four years I had only 3 real issues, all common and all fixed under warranty; fuel tank sender, egr left bank and low pressure diesel pump. Everything else worked faultlessly and it was a superb car. No rust on mine and as good as new inside and out when I sold it. You can now buy similar cars for around £10-12k, budget £3k pa for running costs and repairs and you should be fine. The trick is to find the right one, so no skipped servicing and fsh with either md or indy. Good luck

My suggestion to people interested in L322 ownership (regardless if it's a pre-facelift, a BMW engine, a Jag engine, or whatever engine or model year they choose) is to never max out your budget on the purchase price of the vehicle.

Give yourself a buffer to catch up on maintenance items, repairs and unexpected issues that may spring up today, tomorrow or a year from now. Having a bit of a slush fund will make L322 ownership much more enjoyable versus spending your entire budget on the vehicle but then stressing about replacing tires, stretching out regular scheduled maintenance items or debating on what broken items you're willing to live with in hopes of saving money. 2010 RR SC

Is it worth buying the ones which have been used for towing ?
Does towing anyhow affects the RR or causes any damage?
Anything specific to watch out/look out for in RR with tow bars.

Perhaps as CS says, look at where you are going in the car. You use the car a lot, do you need access to emissions zones? Fuel economy, is it a concern? Can you claim for business use etc.?

On functionality, it's really down to your choice and preferences. Perhaps find one or more of the pre and post 11MY cars, go over them and drive them and then make your choice. We did this.

We settled on an 11 TDV8, found it does all it says on the tin and suits us. It may not suit everyone, but is a great place to be solo, accompanied, towing, pottering or making progress. Does towing make a difference to the car condition, if it's looked after, perhaps not too much. It is, I think designed with a drive train suitable for towing. (our old BMW saloon was fitted with an upgraded cooling sytem for that).

As with any car, running costs and repairs have to be factored, but if you are happy to do some yourself, or have a good independent, life for your wallet is easier. As all say here, a proper service history and known repair of faults undertaken are a must have.
