Hi All
My recently acquired 4.4 TDV8 oil sensor appears to be kapput (message on dash). Is there any way of replacing this without removing the engine to get the sump off? I've seen what looks like an oil dipstick hole (LHS of engine) and wondered if I could retro fit the 3.6 TDV8 dipstick to it. Any help would be great.

The tube you can see on the LHS is the oil extraction pipe, for changing the oil.
You can not use the electronic dipstick for at least 15 minutes after stopping the engine unless you do a crafty reset procedure.....

Select the service menu option, if it reads “Not available”
Open the bonnet
Do two quick presses on the cruise control “cancel” switch on the steering wheel.
The oil level should now show.

Many thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the oil level sensor in my vehicle is defective and I cannot get any reading of oil. I was wondering if I could use the oil extraction tube to put some form of dipstick in it??

Unfortunately no, i try that some time ago as a way to check electronic oil level accuracy, but it did not work. if I remember rightly replacing oil level sensor is mayor undertaking . 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Thanks and what a nightmare that will be. I'm thinking about draining the oil through the extraction tube and measuring how much is in there. Ridiculous!!. However do you think it could be possible to remove the extraction tube and replace with the 3.6 TDV8 dipstick. Presumably the sump outlets will be different? Did you try this?

the 3.6 and 4.4 are different engines so if you did stick a dipstick in the 4.4 how long does it have to be...to many variables to do that me thinks..

are you 100% sure its the oil level sensor thats faulty?

I am not aware of anyone having to change one, but the picture in the workshop Manual shows it being external to the sump and bolted upwards ,
Take the plastic undertrays off and see it you can get access to it ??

you could try checking fuse F20 in the engine bay fuse box and see if its blown...

Many thanks. I will try the fuse and take a look underneath. Where you say bolt upwards, does it look like the bolt is on the outside of the sump?

Suggest, just to eliminate gremlins as a cause, doing a battery reset.

And how is your battery? Low batteries can cause all sorts.

I've just got a new battery but for some reasons it keeps getting wet!!!. Does anyone else have this drama?

When did you get the error on-screen?

Just wondering about the correlation with fitting the battery?

Thanks. I can't take a photo just yet as I've just removed the high pressure fuel pump and the battery is on charge. Once it's all back together I will take a picture. I'm using a Delphi scanner at the moment but might get one of these IID devices.
