Inner track rods L322 2012

Hi All

I want to change one of the inner track rods due to an advisory note. Are there any problems in doing the job eg. special tools etc or any difficulties I will have.

Thanks for any advise in advance

Probably best to change inner and outer as they can seize in place. No special tools just a wide wrench or plumbers grips to undo them. You will need alignment done afterwards too so may as well di both sides while your at it. Loads of guides on youtube and its the same principle as other cars. Think there is a freelander one that i watched when i did mine. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Roger,

It’s a straightforward task and one which can be done with basic tools readily available in most home garages. Probably the only specialist tool you may not already have is a ball joint splitter. When taking off the rubber gaiter take it easy on the large clip and you will be able to use it again. I would normally measure the centre to centre distances of the complete inner and outer tie rod assemblies and when fitting new make it up to the same length on the bench. (Means it won’t be far off the alignment to allow you to drive to get it checked for proper alignment)

Also when fitting back the boot make sure the o-ring on the steering rack hasn’t been dislodged. Oh and make sure you remove the locking ring between the old inner and outer tie rod and fit it to the new assembly. (It’s very obvious)

If I was you I’d definitely do both inner and outer on both sides, it’s only a couple hours of work and parts are cheap too. They are prone to developing an irritating knock so may as well bite the bullet and do it all at the same time!

Good luck
