it will probably stay like that for the next 5 years or so...if you're going to keep it longer than that then get it repaired , if not then dont worry.. |

I'd buy a used tailgate from a 2004 car and have it fitted and painted to match your car. Problem solved. |

It seems to be the case that the cars produced when bmw owned Land Rover were built to a significantly better standard as regards corrosion resistance than later years when Land Rover were owned by Ford etc.

Nice to know - mines an 04 and there is not a spot of rust on it anywhere - well chuffed. Had the bonnet polished last year and it would pass as nearly new. |

Look forward to seeing you cozzy - both my Dogs will as well! Couple of years back I had a Shogun v6 3.5 - went out to start her up one morning only to find some kind soul had pinched the CAT. Now have camera's, Dogs and more Firearms than most Gun dealers . |

Used to have a 54 plate M62 V8 L322 and the tailgate rusted on that along with the arches so as much as you would hope BMW would build them better they didn't Funnily enough aside from the body bits all the issues I had with that one was with all the BMW bits! (Valley Pan etc...) However I managed to get a rust free tailgate in the right colour for £20 off ebay 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography |

I had to swap the tailgate on my 2003 TD6 for one from a 2007 car I think. Whilst the earlier cars seem better than the last ones, they were never very good.

My old BMW 2004 V8 tailgate is rusted to hell...my current 207 TDV8 is showing bubbling on one corner.... Whats the level of difficulty replacing one in terms of dismantling and putting it all back ? Have access to a cracking auto painter. Looked at some on fleabay but with some it was hard to tell how far gone the bottom seam was. |
