Hi Dan,

I'm interested. Does 'aftermarket' mean not LR? If so what make are they and can you pm me some pix? I have heard that some people fitting non-OEM side steps have had trouble with the accuracy of the fit. Do you thonk that is likely with these?
Does this sale include front mudflaps? My RR had OEM side steps when I bought it but recently the NS one failed due to corrosion and I had to remove both sides but the related front mudflaps are still fitted.

Thanks, Nick Previously a 2008MY Tonga Green Vogue SE 3.6 TDV8

I wouldn't worry too much about accuracy of fit with aftermarket steps, with considered use of 8mm ss washers it is quite easy to overcome any inaccuracies. I fitted a pair and found that although not fully accurate they are surprisingly adjustable such that a well aligned fit can be achieved without too much trouble.

Hi niceday, does this apply to all the kits for sale on eBay? Some are £130-ish, some are nearer £300, and in the pictures I can't see any difference!

I have a feeling most eBay side steps will need a degree of adjustment to fit absolutely true. I got my set from eBay and there is really nothing wrong with them, certainly do the job, I stand on them regularly.

I really can't understand why the mounting brackets are not quite right, after all the cars are made using accurate jigs so I would expect them to be all the same. It can't be beyond aftermarket manufactures to make a correct set of mounting brackets, try them, then replicate but it seems it is.

I did contact a reputable installer of such steps and it seems it is generally acccepted that a liberal use of washers is required for fitting to most vehicle makes.

Fitting is straightforward, all the tapped holes are in place on the car, m8 and m6, it's just a case of finding them, they are generally covered in tape and sprayed over with something resembling stone chip.

LR even prefit the 3 bolts in the back of the drivers side sill as you wouldn't be able to fit bolts without removing the suspension air receiver otherwise. All you need to do is screw back the bolts and hang the brackets on.

Adjustment of the brackets up and down is simply a case of adding stainless steel washers between the top of the bracket and the car frame to achieve the desired height.

To get a good fit you just need a bag of m8 washers 2.0mm and 1.5mm thick.

More washers makes the outer edge of the bracket rise, less washers makes it go down.
Simply a case of adding and subtracting washers until you get the steps to line up with the sill and then tighten everything up. Thumbs Up

Thanks for that, much appreciated!

My previous L322 had them already but I've just put a deposit on another Cool which doesn't, so I'll be looking to fit some. As well as looks, we have elderly parents/inlaws who just can't get in without a leg-up!

Haha, didn't find out about the "washers" until I'd fitted the step and it was about an inch lower than the fitting to sit in with the mudguard lol. Off to B&Q for 20 washers, and an hour or so later, 6 washers on the front and it was level. Would suggest getting a 40 / 45mm M8 to accomodate the extra washers (if you don't already have a long bolt)
