I've had the car 3.5 years, 30K miles - never had a peep from the suspension. Has 110K on the clock.

A couple of weeks back I had to get a jump start as battery was flat. Shortly after starting my journey Bong! Suspension fault. after a mile or so it was clear that we were on the bump stops but I wasn't stopping the engine so drove slowly for a few miles before daring to turn off and on. This seemed to sort it but it happened again before getting home (c20 miles).

Reading up on FFRR it seemed that battery issues can cause such errors so resolved to get a new one - "soon".

It then seemed OK for a couple of days, then a couple of recurrences but now quite frequent (despite the new battery now fitted).

This is apparently a "hard" fault (lights on height control go off). I have an IID tool but have not been able to correlate any fault messages with the actual time of failure (yet). Have just taken it out for a drive but it chose to behave perfectly!

I did try the left to right lock process yesterday. Seemed OK for ten miles - then failed twice in the next ten.

One interesting thing; when driving along with the 4x4 screen displayed the left rear wheel shows much more movement (down) than the other three - particularly when accelerating or slowing down. All look even when stationary.

Hope some of you knowledgeable chaps can suggest a way of narrowing this down! 2008 TDV8 Vogue

I had a few gremlins last year at 115k miles on my 2007 TDV8 3.6. Suspension errors on pull away, multiple other failures towards the grand finale - battery changed when flat one day, closely followed by the alternator packing in.
A year on and no more suspension errors or other failures, it obviously did not like the low volts.

Thanks for input but it had a new alternator a couple of years back and the charging was checked before the new battery fitted last week so I don't think it's that. 2008 TDV8 Vogue

check battery is good-even if new,i have had a duff new one before[non rangie]

Use the IID to monitor live values on the suspension heights as you drive along. The 4x4 screen does suggest you might have a dodgy sensor / wire. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Or a leak on that side... mine did this when the osf airbag split just after buying it.. bong then it went down to the bump stops , was no fun at all when to are on the motorway! Pulled into the next service station to allow the compressor to cool down enough for a few more miles of comfort.
If you set the suspension to full height and park it up if you have a leak you will see that corner dropped 2004 td6 l322 - gone

MikeO - thanks - the live values confirm something fishy with the left rear suspension height - readings are all over the place!

Will get a new sensor ordered and keep my fingers crossed.

In the course of replacing the ride height sensor one of the wires to the plug broke off. A bit of googling revealed that there is a very widely available repair kit available so it seems that this is a common occurrence.

The full kit (plug, heat shrink, cable tie etc.) is YMQ503220. You can pay £30 +VAT from LR or about £28 on ebay.

I bought just the plug/tails from autoelectricsuk for £7.50 (search for "Height Sensor Connector Harness Pigtail 3 Wire Plug For Land Rover Rep.Ymq503220").

The broken wire was blackened with corrosion so we are pretty sure it was just that rather than the sensor itself.
