I am thinking of a 405 in the New Year however have never as yet driven one and the comments on this post concern me regarding the size of the boot, when we have 2 horses hanging off the back the 322 boot and back seat are full of tack and horse paraphernalia, if you hunt/event you will know what I mean, a bit long winded but can anyone give me an indication of real world differences in luggage capacity, not the number of litres as that is irrelevant in a live situation IMO, thanks

I measured mine sxs with my L322. Length wise the L405 boot is longer, max width wise it is near enough the same - the difference is in the height especially at the rear as the roof dips. The waist line above the parcel shelf also nips in at the rear. The usable floor space is slightly more due to the length - it is the height where the difference is.

It is still a massive boot. I use mine for shooting for 5 months of the year and I can get exactly the same amount of gear into it. If you are transporting very large high boxes - this is where you will struggle - that’s what Discoveries are for. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Agree with Vogue, the boot is still big. It has never left us short although we don’t have the gear you’re on about to lug around.

Seats don't fold flat & boot isn't as big - however, the armrest can fold again so that the centre opens up right through.

It's not as square at the back so you lose some there - I hope these help

If you're planning to tow, then try to find a car with the tow bar already fitted.

I've got the electric deployable one which I think is great - its a 1k factory option & 3k retrofit

Even the removable farmers hitch is a lot of money

So if you narrow your search sown to a few cars and one has it & the other doesn't, it can make all the difference.

PS - old pictures - but my car usually needs a good clean
It's in an underground carpark in a ski resort at the moment & won't get cleaned inside or out until Easter

It is what it is and can’t be changed, but wish JLR left the sports back look to the Sport and kept the steep upper tailgate. ______________________________

That was exactly what was worrying me (boot size). Reckon I can live with the 405 although it is a shame the seat bottoms don’t fold - that can make a big difference with some loads.

Thanks Alistair, towbar is the number one item I look for as 90% off it's use is just that

Yes, I fully agree with Alistair and should have been clearer. The height was very important to me.

I shoot too but over a pair of Golden Retrievers. In my L322, I used to have e a very smart shooting box into which I could put my guns, cartridges, dog leads, wet weather gear, ear defenders etc. The dogs would sit (and often sleep) on top of this.

In the L405, there is no way this would be possible unless I traded the goldies for cockers. Don't think my wife would appreciate that.

Having just stuffed the 322 full to the brim with Xmas tat, I would not want less space.... I’m not sure how people move between family loaded with pressies in anything less than a 322, in all honesty I could not imagine doing it in a Touareg......🤫....... or anything with a smaller boot  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Theres been a huge amount of development at the base - just hope we get more snow soon - not yet been possible to ski down to village level

We only ever had ours rammed full for skiing - and they are just different -

Oh - and no roof bar option for the L405 unless you opt for permanent fixed rails. However, I can recommend the Thule Easybase - it didn't move one bit
