Hi there this is my first post so thank you in advance.

I have searched the forums and although I have found quite a few topics none seemed to be exactly what I am experiencing so hopefully by putting this out there I might get a clearer answer.

The HeVAC unit is functioning normally when selected on heating or outside air and the fan operates as expected. However when I press either the A/C or A/C Max button the unit shuts down completely and Fuse #12 blows. When the fuse is replaced HeVAC works normally but shuts down again if either A/C button is pressed.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? What checks can be done to try to narrow down the fault?

I have the car being looked at by an automotive sparky on Thursday and would like to have a bit of knowledge up my sleeve when I drop it off.

Disconnect ac compressor plug.. replace the fuse then press ac button, if it blows then you have a short somewhere but if it doesnt then your ac compressor has had it! 2004 td6 l322 - gone

Hi ptaroni thanks for the reply. Is the plug you are referring to the multi plug which connects to the compressor?

If so can I access the plug without having to remove a whole bunch of stuff to gain access to the plug? cheers

Well ptaroni you were spot on. Managed to access the plug to the a/c compressor (not the one that connects directly to the compressor as this is near on impossible to access it without removing the intercooler hose) but the connector at the other at the other end which is conveniently located near the a/c pipes.

Compressor unplugged, car started, selected A/C, no fuse blown. Selected A/C max, no fuse blown.

Plug compressor back in, start car, select A/C fuse blows. As you said i think my compressor has had it!
