I have fitted a replacement engine (M62 v.4 V8 petrol) in my 04 l322. It spins over but does not fire. Any Ideas please ??

I bought an unloved and battered 03 plate l322 with a gas conversion kit and an engine that didn't rattle to replace the rattly engine in mine. I have now fitted this engine using my original ECU's. When I tried to start it for the first time it turns over but will not start. There is fuel pressure at the join from the hard line to the flexi pipe. The gas kit is still installed and wired in but gas tank is not connected as yet.
After googling it I think it may have lost the immobiliser link to the ECU ?
This is going to bug me all week as I can't get back to work on it until Friday. Any ideas on avoiding a trip to a main dealer ?

Diagnostics will tell you if you have lost the link but if your fuel pump is running and you have pressure at the Schraeder valve then link is ok. You can also test to see if you have a spark at the plugs.

I don’t know anything about LPG but it should try and start on petrol shouldn’t it ?

They always start on petrol in order to get the required heat into the evaporator. Can you smell petrol at the exhaust? if yes then it's injecting but no spark at the right time. If no then the injectors are not pulsing - check the wiring, 12v feed etc. One possibility that I have seen on V8's is to get the ignition timing 180 deg out. Check that when No1 is on compression that No.1 is firing.
If it's not injecting just try a quick squirt of easy start down the inlet manifold just to see if it's firing at the right time. BMW i3 Electric Car

The EWS immobiliser is matched to the Bosch engine management which when mine losed that link it would crank and not start. The immobiliser prevents the fuel pump feed and also disables the ignition so if there is fuel pressure and a spark then that is something else.

I had to trailer mine to the dealer the first time but then after that they came out with the testbook t4 laptop and it takes a few minutes to resolve. i now have a faultmate and can do it myself thankfully as mine used to lose the link every time i disconnected the battery.
there are a number of diagnostic kits that will program the link so it is probably far cheaper to get somebody to visit but as above, i would make sure it is actually the link that is the problem.
The allcomms will detect the fault but wont program it.

I'm using both of the ecu's from my original car (the ones in the black plastic box next to the air filter) as I thought they would be linked together. I'm pretty sure I have fuel pressure as it really did squirt out when i disconnected the flexi pipe and the blue plastic hard pipe on the right hand side of the engine bay. I could also smell petrol but I'll sniff the exhaust next time.

I do have the ignition barrel,key, immobiliser brain(white box about the size of a fag packet next to the ignition barrel) and the two ecu's from the original car. do you think its worth trying these ?

I do have a Gapp IID tool, will this help me ?

Not yet I didnt have time, I was a bit to late in my workshop for a Sunday night and can't get back in there until Thursday.

I have gone to the Rangie (the one with the mysterious EWS link problem) which is about the same model as yours.
I can't find.. unless mon ami Patrick corrects me... anywhere the security sync.
There isn't even a menu for the EWS, it is not under Engine in the 4,4 either.

How did I do it

Hawkeye Pro, Engine, Service, security sync, job done, Vrrrrrm.
Then I checked it in the EWS live data which has already helped me with a client's BMW as well.
All I had to do is that supply line.

Now if ever THIS is your problem look at my non start thread and how I solved it.

thought it might not be easy to find so here you go.

Check whether the starter relay (R102) gets the order from the ECM on the YN wire.
If not, you have to sync or look at the interlock

If yes, check whether you get B+ supply on the incoming black wire on the relay. If not, do what I did. Sorted.

It's running

Thank you all for your advice but it seems to have fixed itself !? I finally managed to get in my workshop last night, Turned the key and it fired into life.
The only thing I had done was to take the battery home to charge as I thought I'd be in for a fair bit of cranking over to find the fault.
