I'm hoping that this issue might have been experienced by someone here that can help me to understand what is happening.

I had the vehicle for over a year before I noticed an issue, when I bashed the top of my head on the sharp corner of the tailgate. I then found that I could manually lift the tailgate about 3 or 4 inches higher which would give me ample clearance for my bonce (5' 10"). I went through the height reset mode but it made no difference. The dealer and I compared this with a similar vehicle, also in access mode, and confirmed that this was not correct. New tailgate struts were fitted under warranty, this made no difference. I took the car back and they said that yes, this was still not right so they fitted the next set of tailgate struts and this also made no difference. The car is now booked into their bodyshop for diagnosis with the tailgate hinges being suspected. The car is immaculate, has never been off-road or mishandled and I am baffled.

Any ideas?

No ideas anyone? Even wild suggestions would be appreciated at this stage, within reason .

It's got to be something to do with the variable height which you can set I would have thought.

Not had any experience of setting the height though, but I know it can be done on my MY18 car. All LR cars from 1984

have you set the tailgate opening height ?

I have Stan and Chalky, that's what I was meaning by the: "I went through the height reset mode but it made no difference." I was quite excited when I read that in the manual but it made almost no difference. You lift the tailgate fully up, hold it there whilst you press the open/close button until it beeps, let go and the drops again.

A hard-hat is one solution but there must be a technical answer to this.

The tailgate on a D5 is far worse. Both hurt though!!  All LR cars from 1984

probably of no help - but mine never opens to full height either - always an inch or 2 short. I've just put it down to manufacturing tolerances

Could someone else please check this and tell me if, with the tailgate fully open, they are able to lift it a further few 2 or 3 inches and when the vehicle is in access mode can a 5' 10" person stand under the corner without whacking their head.

I'd really appreciate if anyone reading this could quickly check this so that I know if I should be chasing this issue.
