Help - annoying noise

When my steering wheel returns it makes an awful noise like a wet rubber shoe rubbing on a rubber surface - never does it on the outward move? Any ideas?04 l322

bear in mind that I am an absolute non tech, but I can remember I had that in one of my previous FF and sprayed a little W40 in the opening when the steeringwheel was lowered. It did help, but no waranty Mr. Green
