TDV8 inlet manifold change

Ok, so after trying to repair my cracked inlet manifold, I'm going to admit defeat and buy a new one.

It's my right (drivers side) which has failed. The part is available for about £350 including the gasket and copper washers for the injectors.

Question is, do I do it myself or get the indie to do it. They have quoted 6 hours labour, which is £300 plus vat.

What's involved in doing it? There's an obvious metal shield to remove, then pull the injectors. Does the manifold then come off or is there more stuff to remove. What about the re assembly? Does it need any RTV sealant? Bolt torques?

how spannery are you?

it doesn't look like anything too mega difficult. says you need a valve cover alignment tool, which is basically just a dowel to get everything lined up..... so I doubt that is critical!

Basically remove the cover, slip back the rubber hoses from the plenum,
remove the injectors ( don't know how tricky that is)
losen off some clamps
remove the 18 bolts
and remove the valve cover
reverse. Whistle

sorry was looking at the 4.4. or pay the £300....... and save knuckles. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine has also gone on the drivers side, i have both sides ready to fit just not had the time and since i used sikaflex to temporarily repair the crack it still hasnt failed! When i get around to it i will take plenty of photos but with a baby due christmas day i cant see it being anytime soon! 2004 td6 l322 - gone

I recently assisted my son in changing a 3.0 TDV6 manifold. The 3.0 WSM states that the injector pipes, the rail balance pipe and the pipe from the HP pump to the rail are single use although we didn't replace the rail balance pipe or the pump pipe due to not being able to get access to the pump end connector or the other end of the balance pipe without lots of extra work. The injector pipes are more likely to leak if re-used because the injectors are unlikely to be refitted at exactly the same orientation but as the 3.6 injectors run at lower pressures than the 3.0 TDV6, re-used 3.6 injector pipes may not run the same risk of leaking. However the 3.0 injector pipe kits include new injector washers, O-rings and clamp plates which distort when tightened.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to download the workshop manual and have a look at that.

I'm ok with spanners but I'm very much a diy-er, not a professional. I've not had this RR long but on my D3 before I changed injectors, timing belt etc. I'm happy to have a go but I've never taken a rocker cover off before.

Looking at the car, the right side seems to have more room than the left so that helps me a bit.

It looks doable, nothing too complicated. I'll order then parts and do it when I get round to it.

I have just done the left hand side due to a leaking gasket, left side you have to lift the engine to get injector #8 out. Wasn’t a bad job at all, manual states fuel fails etc are all single use. You’ll need the injector puller’s but they come out ever so easy. All in all a easy job.. just time consuming, especially if like me you like to clean everything up.

Where do they crack? Mines a 07, I wonder if this is another joy I have to look forward to.. assume it’s the same restricted engine performance as a split hose?

Nah mine was just leaking oil back up the injectors as the gasket had failed.

Is there a good "How to" for this job, I can find various bits but not a comprehensive write up? I will be doing the Left-hand side soon and looking for info. I don't want to be removing unnecessary parts and making the job harder. I am unsure if removing the solenoid from injector no 8 is a good idea.
On page 1260 of the workshop manual, there is a link to LH Inlet manifold removal which goes to Topix. I just get access denied. I anyone could get access and copy the info for me that would be great. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Regarding injector 8......

Been there done that. Splitting the solenoid from the injector will work but....

I did exactly this and despite being really careful all the way after reassembly it just didn't work properly. IID tool showed a massive offset compared to the other 7 cylinders. Had to get a second hand injector to sort it.

On my second attempt I used this method which worked a treat, didn't take too long and avoided splitting the injector...

Thanks nick4275 for this and the reply to the other thread. I still have not done the job but it is imminent, I know have the gasket and also spare injector bleed off clips. My leak comes and goes so not desperate. I did find a decent how to on AULRO, here is the link if anyone gets here looking for pointers...
