What happens when you pull this !!!!!

Behind the off side panel in the boot, theres the green plastic tab for opening the fuel filler in an emergency. Also theres a metal wire loop, that sort of protrudes where the wheel arch is, in the same area. Does anyone know what its for, tried pulling it and nothing clicked open Confused

On mine, (not sure about later models) you can release the upper tailgate from inside using the small black plastic pull if your battery goes flat, like mine did when I came back off holiday to find 2 flat tyres and a flat battery Sad 2006 Mercedes CLS
