Very tempted by 3.6 tdv8

I currently have a 4.4 v8 petrol and the miss has found a 3.6tdv8 that she wants so looks like we’re going to end up with two in the house hold.

I’m very familiar with mine having done all the work on it and the p38 before.

I’ve no experience of the 3.6 tdv8 so am after buying advice what’s it like to live with?

Buying advice in the wiki

I went from a 4.4 petrol to a 3.6TDV8 - you shouldn't;t be disappointed Cool

The usual advice applies I guess - the more paperwork the better etc.

EGR's & Turbo's are probably the big worry... Lots of owners here have blanked the EGR's and mapped them out, service history with quality oils are a must Thumbs Up

A gearbox service frequently helps the TC too Thumbs Up

My 2008 tdv8 is the best car I’ve ever owned. As indicated look for 6000 mile service intervals. I think engine oil flush is particularly good for these motors.

Mine has no DPF and EGRs have been disabled which also helps I think. ______________________________

I have had mine for over 5 years now.
63 000km when I bought it, just ticked over 130 000km.

To be fair I have done my fair share of maintenance and repairs in that time.
Thermostat, alternator, rear shocks, front struts, EGR deletion, multiple suspension bush replacement (front and rear), 2 transmission services, about 9 oil and filter changes, etc...

It frustrates me when I am working on it, but there are very few vehicle out there that would come close to being a replacement. It has enough tech to be modern, but is still simple enough to be relatively easy to repair, maintain and modify.

Sometimes 7 seats would be handy, but I couldn't give up the glorious engine just to get the extra seats a D4 would provide.

A Trap
great, powerful Rangie

I have driven a client's TDv8 quite harshly as it was very very sluggish. Soon this changed

We have to get rid of the particulate filters soon, but till then I blew out the cobwebs and cockroaches and was really impressed. Drove a 4.4 Petrol v8 only shortly before, had to cut off at 175 km/h but was surprised that the diesel went as fast as the petrol up the hill. There is a looong climb from the lowlands, about 700m of altitude to the garage and it was one of the fastest I have tested so far.
