car went back yesterday, checked on App and it is currently in Mold in North Wales, a long way from Dealer in Houghton le spring.

More issues with car.

the dash display went into off mode and displayed the land rover picture yesterday no matter what i did with menu button, this happened a lot on previous one.

driving to football home from football on Thursday, car smelt like it was on fire, in fact i got out when dropping friends off to check nothing was on the exhaust or indeed it was actually burning.

driving to football on Sunday in traffic, when i stopped and the stop/start activated all three screens went blank and radio went off, like i had switched the car off at ignition.

Driving off first thing, on a couple of occasions the gearbox stays in first until it reaches about 3000rpm before changing, it is like i have changed it over to manual control with paddles. not very nice when you are coming down a hill and the engine is screaming at you to change and it won't let you.

Is it me or are my expectations to high for these cars.

Jaguar issued a recall on the F-Pace with the problem of the digital display suddenly going blank whilst driving. Needed a software update - I wonder if you need to have the software upgraded?

i was advised by the service manager they have checked to ensure the software was up to date before i collected the car.
lets see what the next couple of days bring.
so far it has took them 2 days to get it back to dealer and it hasn't moved since.

The software might be up to date, but defective in some way and need reprogramming. That was done on my car in response to screen problems (not as bad as yours though). With colder weather, could the fuel burning heater be the cause of the burning smell, perhaps with an unfortunate wind direction directing the fumes into the cabin? I recall threads about fumes into the cabin a while ago, not healthy/pleasant at all. Dealer should be sorting under warranty/supplying loan car, but still very disappointing. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I agree about programming issue, they had my previous car for 8 weeks most of which was Land Rover technical trying to sort out the infotainment system issues. So agree specific programming is required.

the issue with the smell occurred after i had just drove up the motorway at a steady 80 mph, so i had discounted the fuel burner because of the car being warm.
It will more than likely newness wearing off but it was pretty dam embarrassing when your passengers are worried the car is on fire, I also discounted this as it had done 1000 miles .
Imagine if i was a chauffeur and a customer in the rear of the car.

Had an update from the dealer on Friday, they couldn't find any fault with either dash or infotainment system.

Not good my third car with issues, I am either the most unluckiest bloke in the world or Land Rover are pulling the wool over my eyes, I bet you wouldn't like to guess which one i think it is.

I do actually feel for the dealer and their service department as they are in the hands of Tech support at Land Rover.
They also do not need this type of hassle.

If i reject this one that will be it for certain, I am not putting up with this in any way shape or form.

Should of listened to my head instead of my heart for the 2nd time and walked away. Problem is they are such lovely cars.

There again will Land Rover supply me one even i wanted another!!!!!!!

Some of the earlier 405s seemed to have problems with fumes (from engine combustion) venting into the cabin, in some cases leading to rejections (not surprising given health risks). Maybe there is a manufacturing fault of that kind. Not on the same level at all I know, but I once had an Escort where the exhaust manifold had become loose and amazingly there was no difference in engine sound, but one had to drive with the windows open because the fumes were so bad. So one never knows.

IMHO the cars are getting a bit too complex for their own good (and their owners'), one of the reasons I got a 5.0SC as I regard that engine as simpler that the SDV8 with its two turbos, AdBlue etc. My office experience is that new IT systems always have bugs and need sorting, not so bad when the IT dept can just do it on demand, but a hassle if the car has to go back and of course the technicians at the dealers are probably not IT specialists. The software on the cars will be updated all the time to keep up with infotainment and other trends, and maybe not enough time for bugs to be ironed out and have a stable set-up for a while. No consolation to you of course, and it is worse if one has spent a lot, as expectations are higher. You have my sympathy.

Make sure the dealer included these in the update....

The recalls are : N186, N196 and N222 V2. I presume some are covered by the 18C update.

As I said in my post "iPhone 8" under "Electronics", LR actually call them recalls not updates,

thank you for the info, i have passed this on to them.
I had an updated from them yesterday.
They have finally found the noise from the dashboard and were correcting that yesterday.
I have been advised there is now a phase 4 update to the infotainment system which was being applied to car yesterday.
there was no mention of the fumes in the cabin, i will no doubt get an answer soon
These cars are definitely complicated and will be prone to problems, you don't need mechanics anymore as you say you need computer whizz kids to sort them out.
I have everything crossed that what they have done actually works, if not it will be bye bye to Land Rover, off for some counselling and then start the search for another car.
what an 18 months i have had.

You'll regret it if you change brand, 'cos every time you see a FFRR you'll be wishing you were in it!!

I think you have to accept that not everything is perfect in the IT world, that's why apps are always being updated. There is no excuse for rattles and other problems like shoddy paintwork etc, but the software side of things I thing we have to put up with to a certain extent until new updates arrive. Also turning things off, like we have to with PC's and iPhones works too!!

I drove back from London yesterday and one of my passengers in the back said it was the most comfortable journey she had ever had in a car....like First Class in an aeroplane! So, don't get too despondent,keep at the dealers re your fumes problem and enjoy it which is the main thing!

One other thing, just remind yourself how many drivers on the road wish like hell they were in your car!!!

i agree to a certain point about software issues and updates.
The problem i have from what i have experienced is Land Rover ain't fixing them.
I have said this somewhere my wife has a C220D cabriolet and my son has a E220D Mercedes, both have different layout and systems but guess how many updates and faults they have been back for the past 24 months, yep you guessed it.
NONE. If they had i could have a little more sympathy for Land Rover.
It is the time and the stress it causes which is turning me off Land Rovers.

After 3 weeks of the dealer having my car trying to resolve the issues with it I have now called time on owning a Land Rover and i have started the rejection process on my current vehicle.
I just can't justify the amount of money these cars are and except they are have faults on them from day one of ownership.
The sooner they get rid of this system and start afresh the better.
I may own one again in the future but at this moment in time my fingers are well and truly burnt.
