19" had to be duratracs, even though I'm currently on 20" at3 which seemed ok in mud, still reckon the duratracs are better Remember:- amateurs built the ark

You might want to consider the new Pirelli All Terrain Plus. |

Have used Duratracs in 255/55R19 on my 2012 WM and now using them in 255/55R20 on my 405. The speed ratings are lower than the Generals I think (19" 112 and 20" 99mph, don't know why different) but not a problem to me in UK. I've been pleased with them off and on road including in wintry conditions. They are the LR homologated off road tyre too.

I have a set of AT+ in 275/55R20 waiting for my noisy BFG KO2 in the same size to wear out. I'm looking for a quieter tyre and someone who fitted a set of AT+ in 275/55R20 to his D5 reports they are indeed quiet on his vehicle. A local farmer recently fitted AT+ in 255/55R19 to his Rok but I have no feed-back from him yet. They have a wide tread which has to help in protecting the sidewalls. |

Quite interested to see some reviews of the All Terrain Plus - I’ve used the old ATRs, which seemed a reasonable compromise (if not so great on wet roads). They also have the 3PMSF mark. |

Chaps thanks for the insight into the tyre options. I am going to look at both at a local 4x4 tyre dealer in the next week or so to decide. Goodyear v Pirelli. |

I changed from 20" hi-way tyres to 19"Duratrac.They are good in mud and as a allrounder. They are noisy but the extra rubber of the 19" gives an improved ride, even with a A/T tyre! 2012 TDV8 Vogue SE 4.4 |

Thanks for all you advice and comments. I have decided after viewing and speaking with a couple of D3/Defender owners who use the Duratrac's to go for them. Ordered today and being fitted Monday. |

Remember to ensure the tyre speed rating etc is correct for your car - you wouldn't want to invalidate your insurance |

Those with L405's, how do you treat the speed ratings? With disdain and hope you don't get found out, or stick to the rules and use what tyre? Not sure any tyre with off road prowess has a >120 mph rating does it?

General Grabber AT3 have an H rating so good for up to 130mph. I have fitted a set on my L405 for the winter. Other all terrain tyres seem to have lower speed ratings so I was not comfortable with them. |

Think it should be of less concern to insurers over here now that use of winter tyres is more widespread - the manufacturer-approved brands and sizes generally have lower speed ratings. |
