Fuel Burning Heater Sound

Today I had to start the engine for a short period of time and then stop it.

After switching off the engine and removing the keys, I could hear a sound from under the bonnet similar to a gas central heating boiler (guessing this is the sound of the fuel burning heater) for about 2 minutes after the car was switched off.

The FBH has never worked properly on the car (I mean it makes a fan / boiler noise but I've never had it working or heating up the car) and the garage says it may just need priming.

So my questions are:

1.) Am I correct in thinking that the FBH is activated by the lower air temp even though I have set it to off (via the display in the car)?
2.) Is there any way to stop this seemingly automatic activation of the FBH? This isn't a function I would use and it doesn't work so I don't see the point to have all the FBH whirring away and draining the battery if it is not working.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks as always!

Philip.

remember that the fbh actually helps to warm the engine when cold so it might be worth to leave it alone....

On the Ford Galaxy with the VW 1.9PD engine, the engine produced such a small amount of heat without the FBH you couldn't get warm inside the car, the FBH was running all the time in the cold weather unless you were on the motorway. BMW i3 Electric Car

Mine was running on mine tonight as I only did a few short journeys.

Should only run until the coolant temp is up to scratch. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
