Tim....Still have to do a final spec but funnily enough I was asked the very same question the other day. Normally for a 4X4 I would automatically plump for the diesel for obvious reasons but as you rightly say the Evogue being what it is and so much lighter than any other Land Rover then perhaps the petrol is the way to go and I would imagine the bulk of its low annual mileage will be short hops down to the supermarket and back

Unfortunately, my house and garage were built to my own design and in accordance with the local very strict planning regs.............................. in the early 1980's when I was going through the pains of having the house built I never took into account that one day I would be the owner of Land and Range Rovers so the garage is integral to the bungalow (and on the wrong end of it, but that's another story!) and has a door only high and wide enough for a standard car and there isn't any way I can make it higher or wider as the garage is under the sloping side of the roof and not in the garage gable end. My RRS could just get through the door widthwise with 5mm to spare each side but even at access mode the satnav/telephone antenna was about 10mm to high to clear the underside of the door in the open position - once inside the garage it opens out and is plenty wide enough to open car doors fully. The RRS lived outside because I felt that 5mm on each side was just a wee bit too closed to the door opening struts and the tinplate guides to allow enough margin for error with positioning the car. Freelander1 fitted in no bother at all Freelander 2 is wider than an RRS so it won't fit - Defender is narrow enough but about 20mm too high, even if I take the top cowl off the RAI the roof would scrape on the underside of the up and over door motor drive mechanism.
What I am waiting for is the old lady next door to pop her clogs and then I would make an offer for her house - bigger bungalow, larger garden with a garage that has the door in the gable and is 1.5 x normal width and 2 cars long...................... room for a defender and a FFRR inside - it's full of Renault Scenic at the moment though so I cannot even rent it from her!

Here's my problem -

And since that photo was taken my Defender has been given a shiney galvanised chassis and mysteriously grew 3" taller when the original heavy duty suspension was replaced with like for like heavy duty and still standard height springs and struts (me thinks the originals were a little tired!) You can also see the lovel garage that is part of next door's property!

I know they could just drive through it (in turn wrecking the car) but has your front garden got a fence around it? You could then get the things Dan suggested put them at a gate and then even if they got the car they would have to get it of your property? Or what about you do a swap, you keep your cars in her garage and she keeps the Scenic in yours. Then theres no/less rent to pay and surely the Scenic should fit.

Royle, local planning dept in Stirling stipulated open plan gardens as a condition of planning consent, no fencing permitted in the front gardens except a low level 10" high "boundary marker" fence - at the back though we are all enclosed. One person did put up a fence up round his front garden, there were howls of objections, he refused to take it down so the council came and did it for him! Tim, why not just use (a lot) of visable security to put people off ?

My Camel lives undercover at my work depot behind 20 vehicles, but when it's at home is has two wheel clamps on it, a steering lock and a couple on non-visable anti-theft features too.

Or when you get bored of a FFRR (it does happen ) go and do something completely different...
I'm in the process of sorting out a track day special that's still legal to drive on the road.

Why not install a hidden garage. One of those hyraulic garages that drop into the ground, so that it looks like an empty driveway.

surely CCTV linked to a good reputable opperator, who monitors and will call police would do the job - especialy with warning signs???

I know of several businesses who have CCTV movement activated CCTV's that home in on you and the operator will send a verbal warning via phone line to an outdoor speaker advising that they have been captured on CCTV and the police have been called.

On another note, I think Mick hits the nail on the head - somebody could be following your movements via a Forum. That is why Privacy is a must - I made a post about this last year re keeping registration numbers private etc. Only takes somebody to drive around, spot a vehicle and piece together holiday / work trips etc...
