Multiple cars with "cheap" LED strips

So everyones seen the nice looking Audi headlights, right?

Well lately i've seen a few cars with the cheap versions. Like a vauxhall van/car with the LED strip inside the headlamp (must have removed the cover and stuck them on) and then saw a random car with the strip stuck to the front like a Q7 etc.

Looks cheap and tacky i guess - glad i didn't do it to my FFRR Rolling Eyes Shocked

Forum member daveo seems to be the electrical expert on here.

I had problems with the electrics on the headlights of my TD6 - don't think adding LED's would help with matters

It was the ballast resistors (whatever they are) that failed - have to purchase new headlight unit to fix - not cheap

Seen them on eBay for about £250.

Yes, but the ballast resistors are probably knackered on those also.

When they start to fail the lights still work to some degree for a few months - however, they begin to flicker (when hot I assume) then after a short while - the light/glow from the bulb becomes brighter before failing completely.

They could be on eBay for a reason... Whistle

hi, yes led strips can make a car look like a bucket of sh.. or a posy boy racer, now none of us want that. i am in the process of trying to get an old 2006 head light and i am sure i can make the leds to look like the 2010, wont be the same but very close, i have already got the super bright led's and with the setting in the lcm set to day time running lights should be good. with reference to the ballast units a chap i was talking to about leds has after market ballast that work with the range rover, £75.00 each if that's any help, if needed let me know and i will dig out his number.
so if you here of any damaged head lights please let me know. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

If they are brand new, then you shouldn't have any issues with them...

Are they genuine equipment bi-xenon (or whatever they're called) lights for that price or standard halogen units?

I remember hoppy_70 mentioned last week - that he saved himself £900 after managing to get his dealer to replace his faulty lights (for the same reason) under warranty.

I still think £250 is a fair whack of money to spend for an entire replacement headlight unit when its only a faulty electric box that you need to replace (which is screwed onto the headlamp unit anyways)
