Reverse light units

Yesterday while I was washing the car the cap off one of my reverse lights fell off when I was drying it. It’s not damaged as it came off in my hand so didn’t drop on the floor. The part that screws to the lower tailgate is still there and also seems fine.

I assumed it would clip back on and it kind of dies but it doesn’t seem very secure. I’ve conpared it to the other side unit and that is still attached but also doesn’t seem very secure. Are these just clipped on or should there be something to bond them on?

Also, while looking at replacements I noticed some being listed as 2002-2009 while others show the full model years of 2002-2012. Did the units change on the later L322 cars? If so, what was the change as I’m struggling to see anything online.

Thanks in advance

A plastic tag at the bottom of the unit hooks inside the lower tailgate, then a plastic pin locates in a hole in the tailgate, then screw at the top, all secure, wobbles very slightly, but no real movement.

They certainly can't 'fall off' if they have all the right plastic bits and are screwed in properly. Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I don’t think I’ve explained clearly but the part that houses the bulb and has the screw through it is still attached to the tailgate. It’s the lens that has fallen off.

I did think about that but thought it was a little crude. The bulb is replaced via the rear of the unit so glue does make sense.

I have just refitted both lenses on mine. With the lamps off I gave them a good clean and run a very light bead of clear silicone around the mating surface before refixing both halves. Very easy 2007 TDV8 VSE

Thanks, I’ve removed both, cleaned them inside and out then siliconed around the edge lightly. All seems good now
