Auto box 'Flush' techniques?

Dropping the oil from the drain will get 3, 4, or at best 5 litres out of the the auto box.

My ZF8HP70 takes 8.5 litres so that leaves a lot of old fluid still in the cooler pipework and the TC.

"Flushing' using a pump seems to be the professional method, but wondering any way to change 'most' of the fluid if you don't have a pump.

I asked a mechanic recently he said he would do a drain and fill, test drive it a bit, then repeat same day to ensure full fluid change.

Interested to know any thoughts or suggestions.

. Cheers, Greg

I drained and refilled mine 4 times to be sure I got out as much old fluid as possible on my 6hp
Not the most efficient method , but worked for me and easy enough to do at home - also changed the sump and mechatronic sleeve..

I toyed with removing the oil cooler lines at the box and flushing that way , but settled with the drain and refill
Use a garden spray pump to get the oil back in and iid tool for checkin* the temp 4.2 SC - sold , now bought back

My local independent offers a "power flush"- is that not an option?

Isn't the fluid hideously expensive? I would have thought that would preclude repeated fluid changes.

I just had my fluid drained and filter replaced. That was expensive enough! 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

@ £10 a litre, @ 5 litres per change so for 4 changes @ £200 to get most of it swapped over. Not hideous... Thumbs Up .

I got a quote of around £300 to megaflush including supply of the 8 speed oil. No filter change. Just a complete change of oil. LR charge more for the oil than direct from an oil supplier to correct spec Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
