Tried the magic today....so it automatically goes into P if you turn the engine off with it in D. Sort of helpful, but I never turn the engine off in D as I don’t like to hang the car on the gearbox when I park up, so I select N, apply the handbrake and let the car rest. Then select P, turn engine off and get out.

Not sure about the boxes in the L322, but the 4 speed auto in the classic was better left in gear (IIRC) - there was an oil pump that wasn't driven in neutral - only when in gear - and leaving the car in neutral - and the revving at the MOT at the time - was not good for it. |

If kickdown isn't fast enough for your overtaking you can use your paddle shifters in Drive so you don't need to look down to change to Sport mode 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE 1993 Discovery 1 3.5 V8i |

Except that every auto I've ever had (and that's loads) goes P-R-N-D front to back. Often some variation about S mode or "manual" / "command shift" whatever. Park on my BMW is now a button but it still otherwise otherwise follows this pattern. The issue I have with the rotary is I cannot remember which way to turn it from D to get S, or R, so I have to look.
