2006 or 2007 MY?

Guys, as posted previously, I'm keen to upgrade from my 4.4 to a Supercharged facelift model.

I'm looking at a couple, and one is a 2007 MY. What's the general consensus about 2006/2007. I know the terrain response is probably better off road, but I rarely use my RR offroad, and it's pretty good even before terrain respose, what about the other changes, do they justify a significant premium to get the 2007 car? Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

The terrain response is nice, but the instructor at LRE said you can enable the same configuration on the earlier vehicles but you need to press more buttons, such as manually raise the suspension height, engage the low range gearbox, enable HDC and disable DSC. Although I've already forgotten which individual settings map to each terrain response setting and I only visited LRE 2 days ago Embarassed

IMHO I think the front seats in the 2006 and earlier Supercharged have the wow factor, with the shoulder fold and the massive head rests they would not look out of place in a private jet. But the later ones are cooled, so nice on hot day especially if they are a dark heat absorbing colour.

The 2007 has other improvements so if you can get a good 2007 model within your budget, then it must make sense to go for the later car, but IMHO I would go for condition and milage over age (within reason)

Cheers

Thanks Justin, it's the supercharged I'm looking at, so same as yours probably, am I correct in thinking that the cooled seats and Rear Seat Entertainment are standard equipment in the s/c? How do you find overall ownership experience of your car? How good is the RSE (if you have it), how bad is the fuel economy, can you enjoy the engine and still get 15mpg?

Thanks,

I've heard some people slate the massive rugby ball headrests. The seats felt more comfortable to me- as already mentioned the shoulder adjust is great- lost due to airbag relocation from door card.

I've also heard that the electronics are kind of half way in the 2006 though I have the iPod/ACM fitted in my 2006MY. I like the repositioned neater centre console but have heard some people with issues with the electronic hand brake.

Also I'm not sure that RSE. Actually WAS standard from MY2007 though I have it in mine.

Phone book over BT from MY2007 though Wiggs does modules for only £60. also I think digital TV from 2007 (again Wiggs has these!)

Long rambling and not particularly useful but maybe some point at least for debate?

On the engine; I generally mix gentle wafting and "spirited" driving and average over 15mpg so yeah it's easily possible ( though I have seen 8MPG!)

They are great and pretty addictive though!

The seats in my 2006 (no terrain response) model were better than in my 08(with terrain response).
More comfy and more adjustment.
With each tweak the seats seem to get worse.

Shame as seats are the thing you notice the most on a long journey.
Other than that 07+ all the way. Thumbs Up

I love my 2006 SC, I bought it in September last year from a main dealer on 38K miles, probably paid over the odds for it, but its is immaculate inside and out. In the colour I wanted

Mine has RSE, which is a huge improvement over the one fitted in my old mercedes ML. In that car it used to spit the DVD out when you turned the ignition off, which was bloody frustrating as you cant fast forward the trailers on disney DVDs. The RR RSE works well, you can control it entirely from the front, but it also has a remote for the rear passengers. You can individually select what each screen is watching, such as DVD, TV, Aux Video, CD or Radio, although you cant watch different DVD's at the same time.

Im not sure how to tell whether you have digital TV, as I dont think they have a EPG until MY2010. The reception in mine certainly looks analogue but I sometimes pick up more than 5 channels?

I have the phonebook over bluetooth in my car, maybe the previous owner upgraded.

I dont have the LR iPod integration as it seems to a lot of money to only be able to select 5 playlists. Instead I've written an iPhone music player designed to be used in the car (its called 'Nav Music' and is available on the app store:-)) . Im thinking of fitting an Airtunes in the car to avoid wires trailing to the aux input, but there are problems doing so, such as the time it takes for an AirTunes to boot, and the lack of 3G data when connected to wifi.

As with any Vogue SE spec'd vehicle, it comes with more toys than santa claus, I love my heated screen the adaptive headlights, voice control, etc etc, although I've yet to find a use for the Venture Cam.

The engine is awesome, causes huge grin on my face on the odd occasion I floor from standstill to 100, I love the sound of the supercharged V8. Fuel economy is pants, but what can you expect - I'm averaging 14.5 mpg.

We don't have the SC but we do have a 06MY Autobiography.

I have to agree with the previous post about the seats. the Contour seats fitted to pre 07MY vehicles are widely regarded as the most comfortable seats ever. The shoulder adjustment is just brilliant. The cooling bit is a nice touch to the 07MY seats but I haven't wished for it yet.

Terrain response would be good if we took our cars off road but as you have already said you probably wont so you wont need it.

I have heard complaints about the redesigned centre console in 07MY, more specifically the cup holders not, well, holding cups... and spilling the contents all over the gear stick

Electronically the 06MY is identical to the later model but some of the components are in slightly different places. Phone book over bluetooth is just a software upgrade to your existing module and digital TV was introduced late in the 07MY run but can be updated if required (this is a box change though).

The RSE is great, obviously I haven't actually used it yet but my wife reports that it is nice to watch a film whilst being driven around Rolling Eyes

A SC is a Vogue SE spec and RSE was standard in this trim level from 06MY.

If I had the choice of the 2 I would try and find a nice 06MY that was registered before 23 Mar 2006 as it would only cost £245 a year to tax rather than £425. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

I have also the 2006.

it is a great car! the engine is awesome Very Happy

I test drove the 2007 the cooled seats are nice, but the 2006 seats are way more comfortable

Most electronics are the same 2006/2007
2007 has the option of a locking rear diff. But that you only need if you plan to do serious offroading.

I upgraded my bluetooth to the 2010 version ( some parts are even interchangeable with the 2010)

Try them to find out which car do you like more. ( here in switzerland 2007 are much more than 2006,so I got the 2006 but I dont regret)

Sorry, as SteveGT said above the electronics are identical- I was posting on my phone and didn't express the differences (i.e. location) properly.

Yeah the PTI should be a SW update but Iknow of several who ended up with needing a newer module 'flash problems' though as previously stated Wiggs has them at a really good price and as above the 2010 is supposed to be even better.

Sorry for the confusion.

I would go 2007MY.

The seats may not be the ideal ones but the dash looks fresher...

I have an 07 (and will be selling shortly!)

The satnav has the ability to program on the go, which the earlier cars lack (but I believe can be upgraded). 07 does not have phonation over bluetooth (I just upgraded mine via Wiggs)

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
15mpg and the extra 200 quid a year on the tax is on the list of considerations.

I'd rather it in my pocket than in the governments...

At least with a low MPG you are most likely enjoying yourself! What does that extra £200 of tax actually get you? Errrr I would suggest nothing. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior
