How did the new filter compare quality wise to the original filter?

The K&N has a much smaller surface area than the original air filter. It overcomes this by having larger holes and allowing a greater amount of dirt through.

Overall not good for ones engine. Couple that with the fact everytime you clean in the oil settles on the MAF and after 2 or 3 cleans the layer of varnish on the sensor can cause it to malfunction.

I hate K&N air filters - I have one as mine has been facelifted, but I have no choice.

I do however highly rate their oil filters!

I've run K&N in all my bikes, and more recently in my diesel cars, sorento, X5, FFRR. Easy to maintain. IMO smoother, improved mpg, and cheaper long term. Recommended Thumbs Up Ian

Just changed mine, it was very...very...dirty....

How does it get so dirty? never usually get filters this dirty. Is it because it draws in air from wheel arch area?
