Nav unit failure (MK4)

Drivnig to work today and the head unit rebooted four times then froze!!!!!!

After starting the car again (once at work) the Nav computer is not coming up.

Apart from the obvious (that its not well) has anyone had this? Nav unit has been working faultlessly untill very recently. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

first thing i would do is to take the disc out , inspect and re-insert..check for water ingress or damage...a battery dis-connection and re-connection might help if al is ok in the the first suggestion .. ... - .- -.

Apparently it's a common fault, you can buy a fix on ebay for £150, or replace the laser unit yourself if you're brave enough! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

If its the laser then i'm fine woth doing that myself. Dont think there is any water ingress - the car is always garaged and never had water issues before (but will check). "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."
