Hi , the 3.6 is a great car but a 4.4 is an improvement in many ways. I did 600 kilometres yesterday with the cruise set to 130 kph and got 33 mpg.

If you can get a 4.4 for that money and it's in good condition with history then the mileage shouldn't put you off. 2015 4.4 AB

4.2 SC

I've never driven a car that has such effortless grunt on tap when required and is so well mannered when pootling.

I agree with all the replies that maintenance is key. If that is up to date and on time it is worth gold.

Been offered a great looking 2007 4.2SC with under 100k on the clock for £8,500. Full 2010 facelift too.

Looks like a good deal and it's had a lot of work in the last 12 months, mainly air suspension related as well as full service plus gearbox oil and diff oils.

If I start to cover many more miles than I thought then I could always switch to a 4.4 TDV8 in future.

How well does the 4.2SC respond to LPG installs? Read many differing views on that one.

I have a prins system on mine and it is faultless. but I do get it serviced regularly.
it has a 100 ltr tank in the spare wheel bay, the suspension compressor moved to the right hand gubbins bin.
does about 200 miles to the tank at about £52 so 26p per mile

compare that to running on petrol at 36p per mile

fag packets calcs and don't forget the lube system

How much are you paying for LPG?

It's around 55-60p per litre here.

What's the equivalent MPG with your install?

So I picked the beast up this lunchtime and embarked on the 180 mile journey home. I stuck with cruise control at the speed limits all the way to see what sort of economy the 4.4 TDV8 was capable of and I couldn't quite believe it - over the entire distance the on board computer read exactly 40 (yes FORTY) mpg!

That's about as good as my 2.0 VW Caddy with 140bhp.

What an absolutely staggering feat of engineering.

40 mpg is stunning.... but 0-60 in under 8 seconds & 100mph at under 2k refs is all quite fun....! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Happy to report I'm still over the moon with the car and totally amazed at the economy given its size, weight and aerodynamics.

Had the car remapped at a very highly recommended custom tuner local to me and the performance is absolutely incredible - it just pulls and pulls. Spoke about my concerns regarding the torque and how the car is already close to the limit but he assured me he'd mapped the car so the torque only hits 800nm at slightly higher RPM and not so much from a standstill. Had the EGR and DPF mapped out too so hopefully no issues forthcoming from either of those.

I can see what people mean now - I can't see myself changing this car unless it's for an L405.

Just been to Wales , lots of traffic jams stop start and restricted speeds , I still got 37mpg,
