Fog Light HID Upgrade

Has anyone used an HID kit to upgrade their fog lights?

I'd like a whiter light from them and wonder if this is the way to go? I often use them when driving through the country lanes and want to see what's immediately in front of me.

Alternatively I could just go for some of the White/Blue standard H7 bulbs on ebay to get rid of the yellow tinge.

It's £80 vs £5... hmm perhaps just made my mind up.

I'm guessing you know you can get fined for using them in certain cases as they are only to be used in adverse weather ........... Law RVLR regs 25 & 27 Thumbs Up

However - one can use them as driving lights when used in conjunction with main beam. Although technically I think they have to be wired to only come on with main beam...

I wouldnt drive through a town with them on, I want them for the increased visability...

You could change them to LED foglight bulbs to give brighter whiter light and probably about a tenner?

I'm getting a feeling we have been hear too many times but any hoo ,
HID bulbs DON'T WORK IN PARABOLICK REFLECTORS you get lots of light yes but it scatters all over the shop and not focused forward like people think they are achieving .
This is why proper HID lights have a focusing lens but if you want to light up the Owls in the tree tops fill your boots. 2008 MY Supercharged

OK, from reading up on it online and from what you guys have said - HID is not the way to go. Wrong beam pattern etc.

I might just try these "white" H7 bulbs.

What are the thoughts about the 100W bulbs? Yes I appreciate they aren't legal you nagging nannys! Will they melt the housing?

100w probs will distort lens over time. Had that problem with the early omegas when running 100w.
I put a HID kit in my lads car and it has the caps over the bulb that pushes the light back via the relector. A big improvement over a standard H4 hi/lo set up. Ian

I'm ashamed to say, when I was a nipper, I had 80w/100w H4 headlight bulbs in the Mini, they had the blue glass on the bulbs, they were a really bright white, wrecked the headlights due to the extra heat and almost set fire to the wiring due to the extra current.

Simple answer, don't bother. These get quite a good review though....

So if it has the cap it's fine?

Like this:

Not:

This would be ideal, altho maybe the outer ring is a bit bling:

Its similar to the standard fog light bulb. In as much that the tip is coated so that the light is thrown to the reflector and not just anywhere. Thumbs Up Ian

Sorry to piggy back this thread but if i use LEd fogs (2002 l322) (main reason being i have a set that fit into the 2010 fog unit) will i need to use resistors to prevent dash error message. I'm guessing the answers yes as per evry led upgrade!!
