Here's a picture of an e-diff. Note the motor c/w housing on top.

It’s unlikely that someone would spec that as an option while sitting in a dealer. Not impossible but they are as rare and hens teeth on everything but the SC models. It’s pretty obvious when you get under and look at the diff and compare it to the pic above.

I thought if you went into the 4 x 4 info display it would show you a picture of a padlock over the rear diff if it was lockable. 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks everyone for your inputs, on closer inspection my diff does seem to have a wire going in the top and the casing has lumps n bumps I wouldn’t associate with an ordinary diff so I’m inclined to think it’s an e diff requiring oil dearer than Dom Perignon champers Someone has said ALL rangies after 2007 have ediffs? True or false? |

Advanced Factors list this one for the ediff which isn't that much more expensive than the standard stuff.

Isn’t there something different on the 4x4 info display on the screen if there is a rear e diff? Might be wrong....

I think it is a bit daft on the 4x4 info screen to show a padlock at all on a diff that is not lockable! I know mine is not an e diff but I still get a stoopid green padlock when in the relevant off road mode. Bish.

IIRC D4s originally had the same sillyness but some time later the display software was changed to only show the padlock if the e-diff is fitted. |

My Discovery 3 had the locking rear diff and the 4x4 info screen showed the padlock all the time, only turned green if the system locked the diff.
