So, spoke with a gearbox specialists who said that he always replaces the sump pan with a steel one with separate filter, as they break and you have to jack the engine up slightly to get the pan off and back on.

If you had a Disco 3, Disco 4 or RRS with the crossmember getting in the way then, fair enough, you might want to swap over to the metal sump to make future filter changes easier. On an L322, though, it’s pointless. Won’t do any harm, just totally unnecessary.

As Phil says, you don't need to use the metal sump on a FFRR, access is easy - there is no crossmember in the way.
