New on here and just thought I could be of help to anyone contemplating fitting a tow bar to their L405. I just fitted a swan neck detachable Westfalia tow bar supplied by P.F.jones priced at around £370 on my L405, its the same type that was factory fitted to my previous L322. Fitting is quite straightforward once the bumper has been removed.

To remove the bumper first remove the under tray and all screws visible underneath including the two each side on the wheel arch liner. Next remove the trims either side, these just pull off from the front to reveal two more fastners, there are three plastic fastners also at the top of the bumper accessed once the tail gate has been dropped. Remember to disconnect the parking sensors plug before dropping the bumper off. Now fit the dedicated 13 pin electrics, part no VPLGT 0073 purchased from e bay for £75, this plugs into the two sockets next to the park sensor plug, remove the dummy plugs first.

All the lights work without coding however the aux for caravan does not so I have made an appointment with the main dealer to code, who knows how much lighter my wallet will be after that visit.

Finally, Westfalia give part numbers for replacement under trays, this is not necessary, you can modify your existing by cutting a hole with a Stanley knife. I've chosen to leave the swan neck attached at all times just in case some clown gets a bit close in Tescos. If any one wants pics I will add, it's dark out there now.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. Just had a removable tow bar and dedicated 13 pin electrics fitted by a local specialist.

The trailer lights work fine but the rear parking sensors are not disabled when the electrics are hooked up (as they were on my old Disco).

Is this a dealer coding job or can it be done manually (or should the fitter have done it)?

Can't 100% remember & mine was factory fitted.

Stratstone Swansea coded my L405 as a good will gesture and my car has the same problem, everything works including auxiliary caravan electrics but the parking sensors are still active. As the procedure was carried out free of charge I'm not going to make a fuss and it's probably something I'll have to live with.

I have the deployable towbar but it has seemingly developed a fault. The towbar deploys but not the 13 pin electric connection. I'm had to manually pull it down. When stowing the towbar it will go so far then stop. Pressing the stow button again gets it to lock away.

Any suggestions?

Its a 2015 model. Not had any issues until this morning. Its a though the electrics are catching but certainly mo movement when deployed. I think they are held in place with a spring. Car is just out of warranty but I have the extended landrover warranty on it so I'm assuming its covered.

The car had a full service earlier this year and has always had full LR service from new so i'm assuming it would have been checked. The towbar has become noisier I must admit. I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

Fitting a detachable WestFalia towbar Friday....this should be fun.....concerned it's gonna need a part or something but guy says it is complete, but I think I maybe need the undertray opening part...

See images of my Westfalia as fitted with swan neck part attached. I bought the rear panel with the hole but had to modify (read: butcher) it to fit.Not perfect but kooks better than a gaping hole without it and as I'm towing a fair bit in July/August I'll leave it like this. Would prefer the deployable system for looks and convenience but this is a compromise.

You don't need to cut the panel to fit the bar you can just leave it off and then refit when you remove the swan neck part. If you aim to leave the bar on all the time then it would look tidier with the panel fitted with a cut out, you can buy a panel from LR that is already cut but it still needs some modification with an axe

That looks quite a large cut out..... I'd have thought you could cut more tightly, but then again, it's out od sight at normal eye level.

The deployable one is just one side to allow it to fold back out of the way -

Ah so theres a good chance I'll not have to cut anything then as it will just be beginning of boating season etc and an odd maintenace item with jetski or boat.


Handed it to garages morning and they were not sure about fitting it, so not doubt I'll end up fitting it myself, but thats fine.

Brakes are mandatory so as long as they do them thats ok.

Quite ugly with the whole panel out - but if you rarely need to tow & it will cover all the fixed parts when it's installed, then not a bad plan.

I saw this one time in a car park -



The covers come up on every so often - there's one on eBay now for a deployable - so if your electrics will go that side, might be a good plan

Guys, is the swan neck exactly the same part/number as the 322 unit please? That might save a few quid if it is 👌
