I have similar symptoms on our 2006 TDV8. From what I've found, it could either the bcu or the servotronic valve. Now the weather is getting slightly warmer I'm going to test the signal at the servotronic valve & see whether I can work out which is the problem.

I couldn't find a way of testing the electronic signals between the BCU & Servotronic valve on the steering rack, so bit the bullet & decided to fit a replacement servotronic unit to our TDV8 with heavy steering.

that little filter is defo problematic...i left the old one in and the job was much easier.. ... - .- -.

Sounds like the seals in the rack are leaking. New or recon rack Chap. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal |

I've just looked at the process to change the rack and it doesn't look short - RAVE (downloadable from the wiki - workshop service manual) says you have to remove the sub frame. I was eyeing it up thining you might be able to twist the rack out without doing so. I'd say 4hrs+, I think that you can look up how long a job takes somewhere in RAVE nut I don't know
