Assuming 30,000 miles a year, is the extra running cost of 5.0SC as against 4.4SDV8 not "just" about £3,000 (taking into account also that diesel is more expensive than petrol and the cost of AdBlue), so in the context of the purchase cost of an AB not that significant, especially if diesel depreciation is enhanced in the current political climate?
Both are good engines. My admittedly still quite limited experience of the 5.0SC is positive, it's quiet, smooth and refined in operation, there is a feeling of power, but it is easy to drive gently. Still running in, on Shell V Power the car consumption indicator is suggesting 23mpg average, mainly country roads and not much town driving. As the speedo over-reads a bit the real figure will be slightly less. I've no regrets about moving away from diesel, even if the filling station visits are a bit frequent.
