Just for my own clarity - do you have to remove the head unit from the car to do this work please? It is a 'right faff' to get the dashboard off so I just need to know so I can plan the time.

So, I've looked at the ribbon and put them back as they were. I'm unsure where to pack the paper to improve the connection and when I wiggle the ribbon it doesn't seem to make a difference, the display is still blank.
