Tentatively looking for a 4.2 SC

Hi,
the oh and I were taking over the weekend and she said , well why not get a full fat then Shocked Shocked Shocked

We've got to sort out other vehicles we currently have to kinda make room on the drive for one. With a budget of around £12,000 tops (less would be good) and needing to be petrol due to short journeys what can I expect for my money?

I had a quick look around the forum yesterday and it seems the 4.2 sc is the most reliable engine to get, but other than that are there any years that are preferable or need to be avoided?

cheers
Rich cheers
Rich

As it happens I will be putting mine up for sale soon,It's an 07 facelift with 78k,very pampered, fmdsh, silver with black leather, everything and I do mean everything, works.
Things replaced in the 12 months I have had her;

4 x correct Pirelli scorpions(less than 1k miles)
Discs and pads all round
Auxiliary water pump for supercharger
2 x rear calipers
New K&N air filter
New rear camera
Boot space waterproof cover
Iid tool

I love it to bits and spent a while looking for a good one, probably only done 4k in her and shes been faultless, unfortunately one of my dogs is getting on in years and finds it hard to jump into the rear now.

Based in Warwickshire if you care for a look before it go's on the AutoTrader.

That looks a nice car and it's worth paying extra for a sorted vehicle. There's loads of high mileage, old tat around the dealer network for under 10k, I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. If you buy the tat, then watch the bills roll in and the dealer disappear, almost as fast.

3 years ago, when we bought our s/c, we paid maybe £2k more than the market average because it seemed like a good'n. Our costs since have been 1 front suspension air bag and a supercharger coolant pump. Regular servicing as well but I kinda expected that. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

I've currently got a D3 and had a D2, so know these vehicles have certain things that 'always' go wrong on certain models, just don't want to buy a lemon that turns into a money pit.. Sad otherwise I will never hear the last of it. cheers

I did pay over the odds for it but seems to have paid off.
I even paid for a very good 2 year warranty after my unfortunate experience with my first FF but have not had cause to use it.
I'll check if it's transferable as it covers claims to the value of what I paid for the car.

Loads of info on here about common problems on all variants of the FF. This 1 has had the supercharger coolant pump done. Not overly expensive but not if it goes, when it goes. Some evidence of suspension air bag replacement would be good at that mileage or budget for replacement soonish.

You mentioned earlier that the 4.2 Jag engine is renowned as the most reliable. It is and little goes wrong as long as properly serviced.

If that warranty is transferable then some extra peace of mind.

Good luck whatever you end up doing. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Crispian, have you considered a folding dog ramp rather than selling your pride and joy?

Seems like a bit of an extreme solution that £100 can fix! Rolling Eyes Shocked Bish.
