My 2004 TD6

Having sat on my drive since Friday, when it was recovered after a complete loss of drive, it now looks as though my first go at FFRR ownership is going to rack up another bill Censored ! It's booked in to a local transmission specialist on Friday, recovery to their location in Newbury and a diagnostic check to work out what's gone wrong - and then hopefully get it fixed I've done all the checks that I can think of - and I'm also thinking that the sooner I invest in an IID tool the better. However, the money I'd spend on that is likely to be gobbled up by a repair bill - it's difficult to be an optimist at some times!
The good news is that it will be put back on the road, no matter what the end figure is - because I do love it Rolling Eyes and once the transmission's been sorted, the only other outstanding job is to replace the aircon compressor. It would be nice to get a few miles under my belt without the notion of looking for the next event horizon - ah, the joys of Range Rover ownership. L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Well, Rangie was trailered off to a local transmission specialist this morning, now waiting for a phone call to tell me a) what's wrong and b) how much it'll cost to put it right - and it's very difficult to type with all your fingers crossed! 😉 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Doonhamer, You have my sympathy here, although Not too bad a price for the work involved.

Was there any dash warnings, noises etc. I'm always listening for strange gearbox noises (Paranoid).

Hope it all goes well. Thumbs Up

Doonhamer, i had the same gearbox failure about 6 years ago and paid £2,000 for the same as what you are getting (mine was at a local auto box specialist) so your price is pretty good

Peter - just over 130,000 on the clock so I suppose I've done fairly well out of mine, although I've only had it for nine months. No tow hitch so it's never been used as a tug and only one service entry ref transmission oil change (done the year before last).
Mr Blonde - getting it done at a local transmission specialist. They've got a good reputation and were recommended by the 4x4 garage that does most if not all of the work on the big fella. Should have it back by Thursday of this week - that'll be almost a fortnight away from home so it'll be a happy reunion! Very Happy L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

It's back! Surprised Collected on Friday and spent the past couple of days - apart from Sat which was annual compulsory visit to Twickenham to watch Army v. Navy rugby - giving it a bit of a run-in and check, looking good so far.
Next task on the list is to fit the new aircon compressor which has been sitting in the house, waiting patiently for the transmission people to work their magic. Don't know if it's okay to mention them by name but I used Newbury Transmissions and they were very good.
After that I'd like to think that I might be able to indulge in a bit of trouble-free motoring . . . . but you can never be sure, can you? L322 TDV8 4.4 - current
